...but I gotta give it a shot, anyhoo.

Anyone here have the know-how and set-up to convert VHS to digital files? I have a few commercial videotapes of new wave and soul videos, but neither the smarts nor set-up to convert 'em. I know this is asking a helluva lot, but is anyone here willing to put their expertise and time into helping me out?

I'd understand if no one replies to this, it is asking a lot.

I have a set-top DVD burner and can put them on DVDs for you, as long as I get to keep a copy. [:D]

I'm in the Chicago suburbs.

Bro, I don't care if I get DVD copies or not, as long as I have usable files for my blog. Email me your address and I'll send 'em right out, with a list of the clips I need. Keep the VHS's if you want, I'll have no use for them once they're converted.

Hutter could you share with Us the list of clips in your VHS tapes, who knows probably some jewels could arise from there, thank you so much.[:D]

Tons of Devo clips, a lot of it live footage, several INXS clips, and various new wave and r&b videos (Gary Numan, Kool & The Gang, Zapp, Haircut 100, George Clinton, Robert Palmer, etc etc.)

It's all in the video and audio cards.You need a video card that has a "video in" output. usually a yellow female rca compatible output. this will export the video only, next you need to have an "audio in" option the same way. it's usually a white rca jack compatible from your sound card.these need to go into your output sources on your vcr.i usually used a tv/vcr combo so i can view as i'm converting. now uou need the software such as nero 7 ultra. the software will allow you to choose the format and pixel quality you want it to be recorded onto your hard drive as. check with local computer store and tell them you want a video card to do this.Now you need to make sure you have the hard drive space to do this on as video files in any format can eat up space. I have 6 video tapes of various old days of 120 minutes etc. that I now have most of residing on my hard drive and can pull up on any given time to watch or burn.or of course you could just buy one of those vcr/dvd side by side decks. They're under a hundred bucks.

I have a analogue/digital converter so that capturing the vids from VHS isn't a problem. I used it with the Animal House movie and the result was as good as the VHS source tape. Unfortunately I discovered that the movie was to be released on DVD a week later. It's also possible to convert the vids to avi. mov or mpeg as well as other formats. Let me know if I can help.
