CDO's from Universal

CDO's from Universal

Postby korova1 » Wed Apr 26, 2006 2:40 am

I am slow on this one, I knew they have been around for while but never really paid any attention. Have any of you guys and gals tried any of these? I am assuming they are simply glorified CD-R's? They have some really hard to get stuff from Sparks and The Passions, but I was wondering if they are top notch or crapola? Universal has a so so track record on other stuff on regular CD's I was just wondering. Doe it kind of irk any of you that they are selling CDR's at a premium price? I hope this isn't the resort for new music in the future or I am completely going back to vinyl.

I have one. In appearance the playing surface looks more like a CD than a CDR. And on the other side they have the normal record label/tracklist imprinted into the CD. Sound quality seems adequate. I still think they are very misleading--I bet a lot of people don't know they are CDRs.

Also I don't think Universal issues them. I think they are bootlegs.

They claim to be legitimate with the blessings of Universal. I have one that I got inadvertently. Someone was advertising it as a new copy of Orange Juice's Texas Fever EP with the bonus tracks. I already had a copy of the original '98 issue and not the CDO. They sound identical to me. However, the liner notes on the CDO are non existent.

Strange I just discovered what this outfit was today and here I am reading about it! I got the CD today....
