<br>
Glad that's over with. Now I can unwind from all the excitement.
[:D] What's really funny is I bought the orginal CD when it came out, listened to it once or twice, and filed it away. Ho Hum. At one point I had it in a pile labled "Things to sell on Ebay". Now that I know a couple thousand people in the Phillipines really love this band, I think I'll hold on to it [:p]

That's nice, you are learning from us, would U care to check also Lotus Eaters, Fra Lippo Lippi, The Wild Swans, Railway Children, The Bible, Voice Of America , they are nice too but I guess U don't like what I call the Gentle New Wave. As far as we are concerned, we put a premium on melody and it doesn't have to be necessarily mellow. We love also when Gene shouts at Jezebel coz she does it so melodiously![:D][:D]

What a ludicrously overrated band. Do people like V&P because it is good, or because it is rare? I suspect the latter. I have the Japanese CD and it's OK, but give me a break!
Lotus Eaters, ..., The Wild Swans, Railway Children,...
I think I have most all the CD's released from these bands. Of all the bands you mentioned I'm partial to Railway Children.

Finally! The voice of reason!!

I'll have to check my collection, since I may have this album. If so I haven't listened in 20+ years. But I do want to hear it and form my own opinion. There was so much good music that got swept aside, and this web site is a great place for catching up and/or re-evaluating that music.

Having said that it should be acknowledged that in the United States, by far the largest market for music in the world, the impact of Thee Colourfield was ZILCH. (nb I am not equating popularity with quality).

Isn't it the Color-Filled? Because of all the colors on the cover? Now I'm so confused.

Or was it the Colour-Feeled, because it makes you feel good.

It is a great great album!

There are albums that are rarer that doesn't sound good!
Check out Metal Machine Music by Lou Reed.

Exactly. Nobody cared about them here for good reason. The only reason they and other bands like them enjoyed huge popularity elsewhere is because after their resounding failure in the U.S., the record company was astute enough to pay someone in The Phils (XB102, is it?)large amounts of money to play their record. It happens all the time.

As far as their name, it is THE COLOUR FIELD. And THEYSUCK. Gentle new wave? For one, they're not even new wave. They came out well past when new wave ended. They would be better classified as college/alternative/indie rock or the best description I've ever heard for them is of my own invention - WUSSPOP.

1) Because I felt like it and that's reason enough.
2) That list means nothing. Read the top of the page - "The Songs List serves as an informative repository of songs from the new wave era (predominantly 1978-1988)." From the era? Yes. New Wave? No way. There are a lot of songs on there that aren't new wave.
3) If it was so popular and such a great cd and had such an impact on the countless dozens of huge filipino new wave fans, how come nobody seems to already own it? [:D]
4) Quoting Casey Kasem is hilarious on many levels.[:D][:D][:D]

More info about the album:

When it was initially released in the mid-'80s, the Colourfield's Virgins and Philistines had little in common with most of the albums recorded during that decade. The passing of years has only strengthened the LP's timeless appeal. Plucking sounds from the late '60s and early '70s, the Colourfield created an album that will never be dated because it cannot be attached to a specific era. The mournful violin and sultry Latin rhythms of "Castles in the Air" represent the apex of vocalist Terry Hall's artistry. Hopelessly romantic, "Castles in the Air" yearns for lost love with a filmmaker's eye and a poet's ear. There are two versions of "Castles in the Air" on the Japanese CD reissue of Virgins and Philistines, the second of which has a lengthy instrumental intro; both are stunningly beautiful. The Japanese edition of Virgins and Philistines actually eclipses the original. First of all, there are more songs: 20 instead of merely 12. The bonus tracks include a dreamy cover of "Windmills of Your Mind," an instrumental rendition of "Thinking of You," and the rare B-side "My Wild Flame," essentially a rewrite of "The Colourfield." "Pushing up Daisies" can be found on either version; however, on CD the track's thorny guitar riffs and sullen bass lines have greater punch. "Pushing up Daisies" offers a sobering look at withering stardom; Hall may write from a downcast, cynical perspective, but his unpretentious, honest lyrics are always hummable. Hall expresses more emotion on Virgins and Philistines than he ever did with his previous groups, the Specials and Fun Boy Three. On "Take," Hall sings, "You just take/And pile on the agony." The pain in Hall's voice rips through the song's cozy layer of acoustic guitars. The remake of "Can't Get Enough of You Baby" is the only track on the LP that received radio airplay in the U.S., and it's misleading; nothing else on the album is that upbeat. Although the album looks to the past for inspiration, it's never retro; the music is frozen in suspended animation, always fresh whenever it's heard.

Tracks include:

Can't get enough of you baby
Pushing up the daisies
Faint hearts
Castles in the air
Take
Thinking of you
The colourfield
Cruel circus
Hammond song
Your love was smashing
Virgins and philistines
Sorry

Regarding the name Colourfield, it is to be noted that most professionals knowledgeable about the band spell it in one word as well as all of their fans. The band started their career as Colourfield and ended it as such with the album Deception in 1987. In the mid-eighties very few albums, like the self-titled have been spelled Colour Field, but it was usually considered that it was only a play of words, pertaining more to the name of the album and related singles than a change in the name of the band.
In conclusion, The Colourfield makes me think of Xymox which changed its name later to Clan Of Xymox, just to eventually revert to its original name.
