Some finds this week - - -

Pauline Murray and the Invisible Girls - Searching for Heaven 10" ep

P.i.L. - Memories, Death Disco and Flowers of Romance, all 12"

Phantom Limbs - Romance

Pistones - Persecucion (this is a mexican new wave group, all sung in spanish, and it's amazing. Songs are unbelievably good; if in English I have to believe we'd all know them. '83 release date. If anyone else knows this record, I'd love to hear from you because I'd never seen/heard it before).

And some reggae:
Prince Far I - Under Heavy Manners
Burning Spear - Rocking Time
Monkey Business - comp. on Trojan Records, 1980 English release-great-has a bonus ep of "Skinhead Moonstomp" by Syramip in it.

Ollie - which Phil n' the Blanks release did you pick up, and did you like it? A local shop has three (!) releases by that group and I've always wondered about them....

English Boys. Listened to it over the weekend. It's worth the $2 I paid for it.

This weekend:

Dr. Who picture disc
Siouxsie - Hyena (Geffen 90's reissue)
The Flyboys

and a few others I can't quite remember.

Recent finds -

I went ahead and grabbed two Phil n the Blanks lps: 'Multiple Choice' and 'Head Screwed On'. They're both pretty good examples of early 80's US new wave. I remember seeing the cover of 'Head Screwed On' from an ad in Trouser Press.

The Gas - Emotional Warfare. Found this for 50 cents. It's got radio station call-letters scrawled across the cover but otherwise in good shape. This is a really good record; kind of Clash/Alarm-ish type vocals.

The Hitmen - Torn Together

The Outfield - Voices of Babylon. This is not my usual style purchase but the songs are really well-written and well-played. I'm guessing this is their 3rd release. These guys were a great pop-rock band in my opinion; it's not their fault they got a little airplay and became ....well, you know.

David Naughton's "Makin' It" 12". I put it on to make unwanted guests leave quickly.

Oh, I dig it, too. However, some of my friends think it's way out of line. I think they'd rather listen to Nazareth.

I love that album. One of those that just got ignored by damn near everybody. The Outfield were extremely talented songwriters. It's too bad they got relegated to "also ran" status because they deserved better.

I'm always especially on the lookout for obscure post-punk and synth bands that I play on a radio show I host, and sometimes put up for auciton on eBay. Basically, if it looks interesting (especially if it's in the bargain bin), I'll get it.

Voice Farm - The World We Live In (1982 minimal electro)

My Sin - Moonlight Mile EP (melodramatic 1984 SF goth/synth act)

QUAKE FM Rock of 84 Comp (exlusive tracks by Robert Seidler, Fade to Black, Voice Farm, The Uptones, etc)

Spoons - Nova Heart 12" (great synthpop)

Moving Units - Dangerous Dreams (new band that's very early-Gang-of-Four influenced. I'm seeing them this Friday, so I figured I should own the album...)

The Thought - S/T (1982 Joy Division-influenced post-punk, before they signed to RCA)

AndAndAnd - Hold EP (weird cross between Gang of Four, The Clash, and synthpop)

Chameleons UK - Script of the Bridge and What Does Anything Mean? (boy, how I love these!)

Die Unbekannten - Don't Tell Me Stories (compilation of every song by this German minimal synth/colwave duo)

Units - Digital Stimulation (early-80s SF synth band)

Mood School - Decay LP (1987 synthpop/post punk similar to New Order and Chameleons UK)

John McCrea - Rancho Seco 7" (The singer from the band Cake released this weird synthpop gem in 1987)

Lazlo Nibble, I go to Amoeba also every once in a while in Berkeley and SF. A cool place to find collectibles IMO.
