<br>I correspond with Stephen Singleton (sax and one of the principals of ABC)....and I think he said he has only 2 copies of the Vice Versa 7"
I wonder how many were pressed of this? I suspect not a whole lot (maybe in the hundreds?).
My guess based on the trouble I've had hunting one down: 300 - 500 max.
he's kind of ignored my advances on the Vice Versa....but that is how I "met" him ---he had a bunch of cool ABC stuff on ebay about 4 years ago (ok --well it wasnt that cool of stuff), but he did sign a copy of the UK Look of Love 12" I bought from him) within the package he sent a signed 7" pic disc of "SOS" and a phototgraph of he and his son...he then sent me a photo of he and Bowie...
My guess is that he knows they are of some value and has put them away as keepsakes for his kid(s).

I guess I've been lucky with my requests. I've always offered to pay generous amounts if they can help me out with a copy, but many times they refuse any money and even pay the shipping costs. I can only think of 2 instances where the artist hasn't been able to help me locate a copy of their record(s), and even then they were as apologetic as all hell.

I actually met (via e-mail) John Klett of the Hawaiian Pups while we were both bidding on a copy of Spook Opera. He later told me he was shocked at what it went for (and implied I was a bit crazy for what I paid for it). He also told me that while he didn't own a copy of the 7", he did have the acetates and the master tapes.

Touché John!

that's a strange little song --- I first learned about the H pups from this site...if you dont mind me asking --what did you pay for it? my Ebay days are pretty much done....anything I want is usually from the UK, and although the prices of the item are reasonable, they gouge my eyes out with the shipping. there are a couple really great new wave sellers, but they charge toooo much per item....I just leisure at my local record shop now...I was DJing a couple years ago, and I was buying a bunch of crap incase I needed to play it (Howard Jones "Things Can Only Get Better) -- I have decided to be more selective going forward and leave the Go West albums in the bin...

I hope I am not being rude by jumping into your conversation, but I would like to say that John is a nice guy. We corresponded over the web a few years back. There was talk for the EP to be released as well as bonus material but nothing has ever come up. I am still anxiously waiting the day it does come out. Perhaps they can release it as a limited edition CD, similar to what the Comateens recently did. I am against the new downloading thing, so hopefully that will not become an option.

Also, I like to add I bought the 7" about 3 years ago for $8.00 and it's as MINT as it can get. It's a WLP and comes in a generic sleeve. I was very impressed with it and listen to it on occasion. I don't want to wear that puppy out [:p]

I'd be guessing now, but I seem to remember the cost at about $110.00 U.S. w/shipping. There was a fair bit of bidding on it, so I knew the price was going to be higher than I had wished for, but it came in under my max. bid.

sometimes money can be no object when you are collecting things that bring you joy. I spent $70 on Art Of Noise "Legs" (Last Legs Mix) with the ostrich on front cover...someday I'll probably need that $70 more than that bad remix...but still....

eBay has definitely made it easier to lighten the wallet

Just to let you know, the last 3 times I saw this on eBay it went for over $150.00 each time. Marc Wannacott of the group is mystified by how much the record goes for. From what I understand, it still gets regular play at clubs in Europe.

Where did you find your copy?

I picked it up at a store called "Brians Record Option" in Kingston Ontario. The place is very poorly organized but has thousands of records. The owner knows is early rock folk etc but has no clue nor interest in the 80's material especially the 12" singles. The only thing he knows is that if it is coloured vinyl or an import he will charge a couple of bucks more.

Let me know if you do come to Kingston. I would like to meet you. BTW, you will need lots of time for the store. As I said it is poorly organized with crammed shlves, bins on the floor and under shelves.
