Ahhh, the wonderful world of vinyl. I have a number of records, both domestic and imports with this problem.

I've been eyeballing the p5, but how to explain it to the wife...

The P-5 is a sweet turntable but as long as you are in that price neighborhood, take a look at the VPI Scout. http://www.vpiindustries.com/scout.htm

If that still won't fly with the Mrs, then do what I'm doing and just grab a P-2 and MOD THE CRAP OUT OF IT. You might come up with something that sounds about as good as a P-5 for a bunch less.

If the thought of an electronics kit does not scare you, take a look at the Seduction Phono PreAmp from the good folks at Bottlehead (unless you already have a good Phono Preamp).
The kit is only $279 but is said to be the equal of a few boutique Phono PreAmps costing well over $3,000.
If you grab the C3 add-on for it, some people say its the best Phono PreAmp they have EVER heard at any price.
