Who carries the banner?

There's been some great discussion about the sorry state of radio. It's really making it difficult to keep up with great music, and I'm starved for it. I know there are lots of bands that have carried and are carrying the banner of the progressive spirit of the 80s into the 90s through today. I'd love to hear some feedback on who I absolutely should not be missing, even if it seems obvious. Some obvious favs of mine in this category:

Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan
Blur
Badly Drawn Boy
Wilco
Beck
Bush
Collective Soul
Radiohead

Interpol's - Turn on the Bright Lights is the best CD (along with Badly Drawn Boys - Bewilderbeast) I have heard in years.

If you're putting Turn on the Bright Lights next to Bewilderbeast, I'm checking it out! Thanks SwampThing.

myirwin,

Keep in mind the Interpol is good in a different way than BDB, they owe more to the 80's sound of say Joy Divison and the Chameleons, where as BDB is a beutiful collage of so many different things and more original. I wasn't quite as impress
