Reissue of Ministry's "With Sympathy"?

Reissue of Ministry's "With Sympathy"?

Wasn't there talk of this a year or two or three ago? Wasn't there a hunt on for extended versions to throw on?

Since it was already reissued once...and Alain Jourgensen himself refers to this album as "a complete abortion and total piece of corporate shit". I don't foresee this being reissued again.

This is my favorite Ministy release, never liked any after "With Sympathy".

It is VERY unlikely this will ever happen. Superfecta was trying to reissue this + the remixes & the lone non-LP b-side (which is probably what WaverBoy was referring to) - but BMG killed the license and found something in the files about "litigation". And that was the end of THAT!

Funny, I feel that way about all his releases after Twitch...

He's so punk rock.

Coincidence? I just added that CD on my wanted list a few weeks ago. The funny thing, is that it is regarded as the best album of Ministry by the New Wavers and the worst by the others, probably the kind of dudes who don't appreciate The Colourfield![:D]

I bought this CD sealed a couple of years ago. I was terribly unimpressed. I liked Effigy and Revenge, but after that it was bland white boy electro funk. I'll need to listen again.

In my opinion, this is one of the best New Wave albums ever from start to finish. Jason, were there actually other songs from this period that could have been on a reissue cd? Has anyone hear heard any of these songs? I'm so curious to know what they are like.

Also, how many official extended versions did Ministry have for this album?

Two singles were released in remixed form from this album: "I Wanted To Tell Her" and "Work For Love." Both had several remixes on different 12"'s.

"Revenge" was also an A-side single, but no (official) remixes.

Here's an interesting "review" from Amazon (under Twitch):

When I first met Al J. He was a transient young man with a guitar, the clothes on his back, and bad pre-1980's Californian musical taste. He was a very talented guitar player but his musical direction was provided by the band he joined Special Affect - a predessor to Ministry, as an equal member of the band he contributed to that band, and later to Ministry which took half of Special Affect's members and was financed totally by the bass player on Ministy's 1st CD - With Sympathy, so there were no record companies telling him to do this or do that, he did what most progressive bands wanted to do then, create music in the synth pop vein prevalent in those days, and later when most of the band left him due to his heroin problems he continued in the same direction the band would have gone on anyway without his heroin problems (mostly due to the good advice of the folks at Wax Trax) with the possible exception of his last few albums. Well with the capital provided by his fame, he managed to destroy in record time his life, his friendships, and his investments (Wax Trax Records/Labels, etc.) and later managed to rebuild his life (hopefully) but I think Ministy's music including With Sympathy, Twitch, and the rest is alot more understandable with a view of reality instead of a record company or a rock star trying to cover up his own mistakes. As a human being I wouldn't leave $3 on the coffee table if he was my house guest, but as a musician he has been part of a group of people who have contributed heavily to the techno-industrial scene and today's music as well, and everyone should buy every one of their cd's if you ask me, and for being a part of that Al J. deserves major kudos.

This album is STUNNING, hands down. I still remember buying the vinyl LP at Springfield Mall's Record Town back in the 80's. I must have listened to it about 20 times a day. It's in my TOP 10 All Time FAVS!!!

So if the Amazon poster is legit, Al's full of shit about being forced to sound synthpoppy on the first album. He's just embarrassed now that he doesn't make sissy-boy music anymore...doesn't want to admit that that's what he wanted to do at the time, and risk losing street cred with all the moshers that like his newer stuff.

Now that's funny.

With Sympathy is one of the best New Wave albums of all time, says I. Great stuff. I think Say You're Sorry in particular is a fantastic song, possibly my favorite song on the album.
