I don't know why Scott Davies didn't personally contact everyone in the world
and ask them what is on their wish-list and what can he do to fulfill it?

Frankly, I believe that physical reissues of the semi-forgotten bands/albums are going to be less and less possible with every year. It takes a lot of time and effort and to earn enough on them the prices have to be rather high. But it is quite possible to reissue them as lossless downloads and this is a very good compromise. This approach allows to reissue almost anything without thinking of the costs. And you can always burn a CDr if you prefer to listen to your music on a CD player.

Ugh...downloads...hate em. Can already find everything on the inter-nets and burn it if I want. I want quality physical media. The artists that just do downloads on Bandcamp...etc. aren't' getting my dollars. I only purchase CD's. IMO artists that do the download only, are marginalizing the very field in which they participate. A download requires zero effort, zero thought...just a click...so insignificant just like any other click. Those of us that truly love music and all of the art that goes with it, appreciate holding a physical product in hand that infers meaning and care. A shame that so many modern day artists don't understand how meaningless downloads make their art. After all they did to create it, it will end up as an unseen file on someone's phone. Sad.

Maybe your stupid comment explains why he doesn't do it.

I have more than 12K albums in various formats and, frankly, I do not care about holding music in my hands any more :D . Especially keeping in mind that my sight is getting worse with age and I often can't see what it is written in a CD booklet without a magnifying glass
The sound quality, however, is a different story. I take this issue very seriously. I've experimented with many CD-players in my life and now I listen to all my music on... a laptop! (connected to a rather expensive receiver). You can't imagine what sound quality you can achieve with some audiophile plug-ins. A touch of a lamp-amplifier warmth, a wider stereo effect, tape saturation, analog-ish dynamics...? You got it! So I spent a couple of years converting all my collection into the highest bitrate AAC QAAC and now I can say that I've never had a better listening experience in my life. Plus I always use carefully tuned Dolby Prologic II which allows you to be surrounded by music, I never listen to stereo nowadays. So when we speak about downloads it does not always have to be streaming sound quality, let alone listening on a phone.
Unfortunately I can't find many albums as high quality downloads, I do not need poor vinyl rips or low bitrate mp3, so I'd be happy to have them in any lossless format.

By the way, it's only when I changed my sound system configuration, that I started appreciating non-remasters. I used to spend a lot of money on those countless reissues, remasters, re-remasters, deluxe editions, etc. All in search of the perfect sound, I think (and a nicer packaging :D ). It was very silly as I understand it now. It's rather simple really, you can add a lot to the original sound with the help of those plug-ins, but it is very difficult to get rid of something you do not like in the sound, and it is simply impossible to "uncompress" the over-compressed reissues. And nowadays all reissues are over-compressed. The only label, that I know, which releases had good dynamic range was Rubellan Remasters.

Completely agree with you about most "remasters". The over compression is a killer. I find most streaming versions of tracks I've owned on CD since the 80's to be that way. 90% of the time I prefer the original release. I have a pretty decent mid-level hifi system and I most certainly can hear the difference between formats. My current CD player is the SMSL PL200. I must say, for a relatively inexpensive unit, it sounds really good. Of course, the rest of the system matters as well. My amplifier is a TEAC AX-505 and my speakers are Revox Shelf G70s. So, no plugins needed over here. :-) Ha! Your comment about reading the CD booklets made me laugh. I am in the same boat! I wish they would use larger font for liner notes!

Gentlemen, this forum is not exactly full of life and unnecessary quarrels will only reduce the number of its members. I would suggest discussing something really interesting. We are still able to find decent topics, I hope.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to suggest thinking about the possible reorganization of some categories of the forum, namely, to combine a few of them. I think that many people visit only "News" nowadays, it seems reasonable to combine it with "General discussions" at least. This would expand the range of topics for discussion and increase the activity of the forum members.
