The Sisters Of Mercy concert in Cleveland last night was by far the worst show I had ever seen. In short, you could not hear any lead vocals at all, though the backing vocals were loud and clear. Troubled Andrew didn't seem slightly concerned that all he emitted sounded like a minor grumbling in the background. There was no attempt to resolve this. Add to that the fact that there was an obsession with smoke, and you could barely see much of anything besides an occasional silhouette. The fog machines were so heavy they triggered the fire alarm and the house lights were forced on. Problem was that they could not stop this and the alarm went constantly and the house lights stayed up the whole time.

The band consisted of two guitarists and a backing tape, and there was question as to if the guitarists were there for show instead of actual players as well. It did NOT sound live. We were about third row center in the standing area, and after five songs without sight or (vocal) sound, we retreated to the back of the venue where we bitched a fit to each other, going on about how this was the worst concert ever. Some of the audience were also annoyed, and viewed the music as a minor background sound while they conversed. Others were mindlessly thrilled about being cheated. During the first encore, we had enough and departed only to go outside of the venue and bitch with some others we met outside.

AVOID THIS WASTE OF MONEY!

Sounds close to the concert that I saw in the early 90's. Lots of smoke, could barely see anything, the sound was good though, no drummer, and very boring.

This was the concert that they did with Public Enemy and a bunch of others like Gang Of Four who were boring too.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'm supposed to go see them on the 28th here in Vegas(thank god I didnt buy a ticket). I'll keep you posted as to if this show was better. Sorry you guys had such a bad time.

What he hears from the stage monitors may not be the same as what's being played on the speakers that fire towards the audience.

I find a lot of concerts (in club venues) to have sucky sound. They crank the sound so loud that if you're in the main/front area, it's like a wall of noise. Vocals are usually drowned out by the other instrumentals, although it's not as bad as what you experienced. It's like the singers have no talent, so they're trying to drown them out (which may not be far from the truth).

Just got back from the Sisters show here in Vegas @ HOB. Andrew looked good, he was a bit funny tonight. However, I must concur with the others, the sound was shitty throughout the show, so much so, that I honestly thought he was just going through the motions on the first few songs, and that they were pre programmed. At one point, I heard vocals, but didn't see his mouth moving. The entire band sounded as if they needed to SERIOUSLY turn the volume up, maybe his voice is shot & he's trying not to show people?

Other than this annoying fucker who was standing directly behind me once the show started, who kept yelling "ANDREWWWWW" every 5 minutes or so(it was extremely annoying, and I'd be willing to bet someone else would've slapped him)directly into my ears, till finally i had to tell him to "STFU"......the rest of the show was fun. Not much of a crowd, i thought for sure the place would be packed, but there was only around 300-400 people there.

Hypernova, the opening band, was actaully pretty good, and the dude singer sounded a bit "Joy Division" esque. Definitely had a cool voice, and they were a bit dark @ the beginning, then started to tail off and go poppy(which wasn't as good).


All in all, aside for the annoying fucker, the sound being way turned down, and tons of hot women, I had a good time.

They did all the usual suspects, did a weird non singing version of "First & last & always" (Andrew didn't even sing a note), and I think they finished up w/Temple Of Love.

That's a pity, but maybe the sign of what the info age is about, to read that another band I really liked "in Studio form" was terrible live.

Ha! This sounds like the Sisters show I saw at the Ritz in NYC back for the Vision Thing tour. Danielle Dax opened and she was good. Andrew was a complete dickhead to fans in the front. I actually have the show on tape somewhere. Same set-up, AE, 2 guitarists, a bassist and drum machine. I may be wrong about the number of guitarists. Lots of smoke - enough to choke people in the back of the venue.

I have a hard time imagining Gang of Four as being boring. Maybe you caught one of the later lineups that blew ass. I saw them a few years ago with the original lineup and they did the first few albums live and it smoked! One of the better reunion gigs I've seen.

None of the reunions I've seen have yet to top The Chameleons. By far the best reunion gigs I've seen.
