I can't wait to see them, got my tickets Monday morning!!

Anyone have any clue when they are announcing new dates? They have come to SLC for the last 3 tours, but their website seems mighty short on live gigs, especially in the States....are they simply still putting them together?

Their web site just released pre-sale tix today for Los Angeles and Vancouber B.C., among others. I was able to snag some excellent seats for the 10/28 Vancouver show.

Oops...sorry about the Vancouver mispelling above. Anyhoo, I also recall some other US dates, including Chicago and New York.

It does seem like they are being pretty selective with cities right now; I wonder if they are planning a followup leg to fill in the gaps later?

Encore: Where the Streets Have No Name, One, Ultraviolet, With Or Without You, Moment Of Surrender

That's a horrible set list? How so?

I'm not sure where to begin.

1. Nothing from first 2 albums. No "I Will Follow."

2. Very little Achtung Baby and they totally missed their best tracks from that one, i.e. Until the End of the World, Even Better..., Acrobat, Who's Gonna Ride...;

3. With the exception of "Where the Streets..." they played their two biggest crappy hit upchuck-worthy songs from Joshua.

4. Way too much material from last 2 albums. Lots of beer breaks!

5. No New Year's Day, only Sunday from War - typical.

6. Considering Pop got lambasted as one of the band's worst albums, it's looking pretty good these days in light of the last two forced efforts. Please, Last Night on Earth, Mofo and Do You Feel Love are classics compared to new stuff.

7. Angel of Fucking Harlem... godawful song even by 1988's standards.

The only real bright spot was bringing back The Unforgettabl Fire, which is a classic and the fact that they didn't play anything from Zooropa. Smart move!

U2's b-sides from 1981 to 1987 were better than just about their entire output from 2000 onward. Maybe they should start playing some of those songs too![;)]

Tell me 'bout it..
Even some nuggets from their EP 'Wide Awake In America' would add some much needed substance and depth to this bland setlist from a band that could EASILY pull out enough back catalog material to fuel a 4 hour show FCS!

I stand corrected... U2 did play "Stay" from Zooropa at some of their gigs. Where's the vomit emoticon when you need it?

Hmmm Shred, I've gotta respectfully disagree with a couple of your setlist comments. I think this is actually a much better setlist than the Elevation Tour (or whatever the 2001 tour was called).

Regarding Achtung Baby, I think Ultraviolet is one of the most underrated songs on the album, and it should be fantastic live.

With regard to New Years Day, actually it's not typical to leave it out of the setlist. I've seen almost every tour from War on, and New Year's Day has been included in many of those shows. That said, I wouldn't complain if they included a few of the deeper tracks from War...

I do agree that Unforgettable Fire is a great song to bring back; possibly my fave live U2 song. I'll add that City Of Blinding Lights was also really good on the last tour.

That's fine BWD! No need for us to agree 100%. "Blinding" is one of the few tolerable tracks from Dismantle, so I'll give you that one! It's like they ripped off Coldplay, who rip off U2... a viscious cycle

"Elevation" was the last time I saw them and I recall being modestly entertained, but I would need to look at the setlists to see if this one is in fact better IMHO. I'll have a hard time believing that given these current setlists that the poor Europeans are getting. Maybe once they get to the states, they'll switch things up a bit?? Not that I would know since I've stopped wasting my money on their shows. Between UF and Elevation, I spent a small fortune seeing them live and they couldn't possibly ever be better than the 84-87 timeframe when there was a real sense of urgency and less gimmicks.

Ultraviolet is a good tune, but compared to the ones I've mentioned above, it's less eventful. Also, I forgot to mention "Gone" from Pop, another great track that probably will never see the light of day again.

In rethinking New Year's Day, you are correct. I've seen it on every tour, but they always play the single version. They should really bring back tracks like Surrender, Drowning Man or even Red Light. Considering their vast back catalogue, they do so little of it, unlike other bands from that era who really do a fine job at cover their bases, i.e. The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen, just to name a few.

Yeah, I do generally agree with you Shred. I haven't heard stuff like Surrender since the War tour, and they do tend to skip the cool deep album tracks.

For some reason, I didn't like the Elevation tour, but did enjoy the Dismantle tour where the pulled a nugget off of October for most shows (the played Gloria at the show I saw).

Are you going to this tour? I have tix for the Vancouver show, but am not yet sure whether I will make the trek up from Seattle, or sell them. Who knows...I do still regret not making a road trip for the Unforgettable Fire tour!
