AWESOME show last night!

The "classics" were awesome (the new songs less so)

A GREAT gig. Very unexpected given how much I dislike the new album. I just happened to go along somewhat circumstantially. I even ended up not minding the new songs that much - they were like a study in almost comically channeling Giorgio Moroder at best and possibly Olivier Newton-John at worst. But the crowd seemed to know all of the new numbers and cheered loudly for them.

I really think I must be on a different wavelength than many of the Goldfrapp fans. I love their thumpy numbers to be sure, but I also thought it was a spectacular and brave first encore to bring it down a notch and do Utopia and Black Cherry off their first two albums respectively - two of my faves:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jgHUJz99D4A&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jgHUJz99D4A&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

The second encore did rock the hardest with Ooh La La and Strict Machine. I have to give credit to the audience for being SO into it and dancie - a flamboyantly entertaining crowd in their own rite. If anyone in the Bay Area is inclined even slightly to catch it tonight, I'd say that Alison and Co still have plenty in their tank and are still a must-see.

There are still seats left for tonight's show at the Fox Theater in Oakland. I may get up there. Any one else going to check it out?

Crap. I saw your post too late. There's no way I can make it in time.
