a little computer help needed

I have an older computer & if I try to re-title chnge a track it becomes a file box the computer no longer knows.How do i tweek this from happening again! & when I open a file box they are of maximum porportions & a re adjust I can do & hit the x to get rid of the side menu & then run in the lft size to get the box the way i like it to be but close it & reopen it again its back to the same deal.The other computer remembered how it was & always opened it as it was left at?????
