Here's some stylish new wave, punk, dub, electronica from the land of holey cheese, mountains, heidi, great chocolate, army knives and intricate clocks. Before I generalise anymore here's Zurich duo Andrea B and Sky Antinori aka Division Kent.
Debut long player 'Monsterproof' came out in 2005 and follow up 'Gravity' is all set to be released shortly, the only problem being it's set for a Swiss only release thus far, but by rights it should get a wider release, particularly in light of the fact that some well known names have been involved with putting the album together.
Composer and producer Peter Scherer (Laurie Anderson, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Amedeo Pace/Blonde Redhead, David Byrne/Talking Heads) introduced the duo to Peter Schmidt (Beatsteaks, Klee) in Berlin, in whose Ballsaal-Studio a major portion of the album was then mixed, and Schmidt in turn put them into contact with Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Interpol, Indochine, Nick Cave).
Vocalist Andrea B describes 'Gravity' as being 'dark with colour' and it's a diverse trip through cinematic moodiness, driving post punk, danceable beats and playful electronics, with the cool constant of Andrea's breathy vocals.
Division Kent are more deserving of a wider audience and you can hear more at the myspace page. Here's a couple of tracks from the forthcoming album.
