The Pacific Northwest rises again?

Postby Frau_Blucher » Tue Jun 24, 2008 11:43 pm

I was just listening to the new Fleet Foxes album. Wow, what a grower. Pretty fabulous blend of earthy folky psychedelic indie. Really bummed to have missed them at SXSW. Then I realize that folks like Band of Horses and Helio Sequence fit a similar vein. Maybe they're great or maybe they're just refreshing because they're different. Not "next wave" I suppose but certainly next something. Any others?

Classifying this stuff is kind of a bitch, isn't it? I guess you could try Rogue Wave, Two Gallants or Okkervil River and for the weirder stuff, Oneida.

Right, Okkervil are right in there! It's not stuff I typically would have gravitated to, but again, maybe just the difference is drawing me.

I kid you not, I was listening to Fleet Foxes Sunday and said "I'm sure all those indie rock critics will go ga ga over this but I classified it under BORING". I do rather like the Helio Sequence and Band of Horses however.

Took a walk in the Berkshire hills to some Fleet Foxes. "Transformational" is all I can say.
