Mary Onettes or British Sea Power

Postby Frau_Blucher » Mon May 12, 2008 6:38 am

I'm struggling here folks. Next Monday are gigs for The Mary Onettes in NYC at the Mercury Lounge and British Sea Power at Maxwell's in Hoboken. I've never seen the JAMC/Cure/Smiths/Ultravox melding that are The Mary Onettes. They're good but I'm not manic about them. On the other hand, I will have seen BSP a total of 9 times on this current tour, but my 10th and last opportunity is the final gig of an epic 52-date tour. They just might pull out all the stops...AND it's at the teensie-weensie Maxwells.

Do I pass up an interesting and very new wavey Mary Onettes for the chance to see an epic send-off of my favorite band or not? I have lost all perspective...I need perspective! [?][:0]

I would see BSP as they are breaking up after this tour and this will be their final show ever

Coop is technically right. It's their last show as BSP. They will then take a short hiatus and begin their pursuit of a lifelong musical ambition ... to be the world's foremost Apart From The Crowd tribute band.

Bullshit! I have it from reliable sources that 2009 will bring a 57 state tour.

Definitely hit up the Mary Onettes! Especially if you've see BSP 9 times, what haven't they played that you would want to hear live? I wish they we're playing here in New Orleans!

Well it's settled...Mary Onettes it is. BSP's setlist in Boston tonight was identical to Brooklyn. Great gig but after 9 in the last couple of months, I think I'm finally done. 10 would have been a nice round number, but I'm now actually getting pumped up for Mary Onettes. Hope to see some folks there.

PS. Anyone that wants a free BSP ticket for Maxwells, drop me a line.

Wow. Never thought I'd see the day. Please turn in your BSP fanboy card at your earliest convenience. No Marmite for you!

Um, heh, well...here's "a" playlist:

01 All In It
02 Atom
03 Carrion
04 Oh Larsen B
05 Down on the Ground
(Noble: "This one is by request.")
(Hamilton to Blir: "Well, what do you want to hear?")
(Blir: "OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR!!!")
06 Open The Door [:p]
(Blir: very happy happy, much fun fun [8D] )
07 Waving Flags
08 The Great Skua
09 Canvey Island
10 Lights Out For Darker Skies
11 Trip Out
12 No Lucifer
13 Remember Me
14 The Spirit of St. Louis
15 Rock in A - 25 minutes of mayhem.

Very party mood - fitting for the final gig of a 3-month tour. Occassional jokes by Paul the roadie:

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9_nWZzs86TY&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9_nWZzs86TY&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

I'll have to try to catch Mary Onettes in Brooklyn or Boston this Friday or Saturday. [:I]
