Robyn is fun dance music. I thought Fembot (and a few others from her recent album) was a great booty-shakin' tune:

Of all places, Entertainment Weekly actually had an article just this week about her lack of success three albums in. I think it's just a crowded space, and she frankly doesn't have something like Gaga's panache or Perry's...um...great tits. It's just mainstream dancepop and there's shitloads of it out there. Snore.

as if there is less alternative rock out there?
As far as success, there are rather large regional differences in pop music, that's always been the case. And I don't think she gets as much promo in US as US based singers like Gaga or Britney...though I think Robyn did perform on Letterman a few times..

Body Talk is not her third album.... her first album was in 1995 when she was 16. There were two rather big hits off of that... that was before Britney and Christina too.

Judging by Billboard (since you're talking popularity), FAR less. I'm just pointing out the EW article. They love Robyn. Yay!

very interesting Daily Show segments

her other big hit from her debut album was "Show Me Love", a mid 90's funky pop song very popular at that time. I think her debut was very good for such a young singer (16-17 year old), done in R&B/Pop of that time period. After that she really did not have much commercial success in US.

Over here in Sweden she is currently the biggest pop star and she's also selling well in many other European countries.

She is actually a true indie artist now - records most of her work at home and releases it on her own record label. She only does distribution agreements with companies she likes to work with. She does everything on her own terms.

I don't like her work from the 1990s but her recent Body Talk albums are lovely. Great hooks, and with a couple of songs that sound like the basic tracks were recorded by Front 242. It's an utterly appealing combination: a charming pop singer with a cold synth backing.

Not sure if this was posted above, but I thought this Robyn cover outdid the original.
