Can someone explain Warpaint?

The reviewers seem to be drooling all over eachother about The Fool. I can understand that there's a lot of trippy guitar and rhythm interplay - I'm sure there's about 2 billion of the earth's 7 billion population that would love a proper heir to MBV and TJAMC. But in the end, doesn't there have to be some good songs? Is this one of those albums I've listened to too intently for the hook...and it's not about the hook? It's more of a draw-you-in atmosphere piece? How come it's not drawing me in? What's going on here?
Thanks in advance.

Are you stoned when you listen? I think that's the key.

Another addition to the current crop of 60's sounding Garage Girl Groups along with Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast and others. I find this song mildly interesting. But maybe that's cause I got it for free.

There are few people as clueless as reviewers (especially on brain dead sites like Pitchfork, e.g.) so I wouldn't put a lot of stock in their opinions.

I agree ,it's half decent as a freebie.

I have both their releases.
"The Fool" production/engineering is top notch, I haven't heard a female rhythm section as capable and tight as what they captured on this recording. No doubt these gals will have problems re-producing this stuff live.
I was afraid that the reviews/hype would overshadow a pretty solid effort. It took me a few listens to warm up to it, but that's usually a good thing.
I really don't see any comparison to garage girl groups. If anything it reminds me of something from the 90's.
I think this song is better than Undertow, really kicks in at the 1 minute mark

It's actually said that they're quite adept at reproducing it live Swamp, and that they're better that way.

I am indifferent about it but 90's is spot on in my opinion

"Undertow" is for me certainly one of the best songs from the second half of this year. Gave up on the album after the second listen.
