none in those exact versions - at least, not on any official compilation I am aware of, nor on any of the 2010 expanded remasters.

thanks, but "Track 18 is a 7" version from 1983, and not the one from the original 1981 release and is titled "It's Not Me Talking" on inner sleeve booklet."

It's not be on any CDs as far as I know. In-case you haven't heard it, it's on YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX06zTnN9-s

The single says it's a "remix" but it's just the normal mix of the original recording before the later re-recording. I don't believe the original recording had any other remixes and the instrumental b-side version is exactly the same as the "remix".

That's the mix I believe, or at least it's the same as the one I'd heard before in lower quality. The only two mixes that exist as far as I know are the original recording with production by Bill Nelson and the later re-recording. There's also an instrumental mix that was on the b-side which I believe was also produced by BIll Nelson but "Factory Music" from the 12" wasn't, though both of those have never appeared on CD.

I could have sworn there was a 'Best Of Cocteau Records' compilation CD somewhere, but in digging I can't find one.
There was 7" singles box set in which "Talking" is included.

Bill Nelson still owns the rights, and I'm surprised he never put out a four track CD single any time in the last 35 years,
or at least licensed it for any of the AFOS compilations.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! The rips are indeed really good!

The breakdown of versions seems to be like this:

1981 7" included the first version of "Talking", which wasn't finalized (they wanted the single to be released as soon as possible due to Peel session being aired to capitalize on the attention).

In Spring of 1983 the 7" has been re-released (re-pressed more like) due to AFOS's breakthrough in the UK and additionally the 12" surfaced that included the finished version (both remixed and with additional recordings). It also included the instrumental version of the finished version.

A bit later the band's second album "Listen" got released. It included a new version of "Talking", still produced by Nelson but re-recorded completely. In Summer of 1983 AFOS released that version of "Talking" as a single. 7" is a remix quite distinct from the LP version (and, as was pointed out, somehow found its way onto the "Indie 1981" CD compilation, it being its only digital source), while is on the 12".

So, all in all, five versions of a song over two years. Hope this helps.
