All the recent discussion about "Get Set" got me doing a bit more research. Apparently, Yazoo performed it live on the May 29, 1982 episode of "Get Set For Summer" on BBC One (as well as "Don't Go" and "Only You"). I'm from the USA so I was not familiar with the show. This 1982 performance contradicts several claims I remember reading at the time of its release on 2010's iTunes-only version of "Reconnected", which indicated the song was recorded in 1983.
Here are all 3 songs Yazoo performed on the show along with a short interview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0avTCU ... 6tYdvNHth5Love that they actually performed all 3 songs live rather than lip syncing to the studio recording. Out of curiosity, can anyone confirm how long "Get Set" was used as the show's theme song? I see the show debuted in 1981 so obviously no the 1st season (or series).
What especially caught my ear, right at the end of the interview, the host says "Get Set" will soon be released as a single! Given that the show aired on May 29, 1982, this was BEFORE the "Don't Go" and "The Other Side Of Love" singles AND the "Upstairs At Eric's" album were released. So now I'm curious if it was originally planned for the album - or was it intended specifically for use as the TV show's theme song? And IF it WAS initially going to be a single, is there an extended version hidden away someway? Highly unlikely, I'm sure, but can't help but wonder. As the album took form, it was probably decided that the song simply didn't fit in.
Anyway, interesting stuff, and still a great little song!
