Need Help With File (Re)Tagging (Music Brainz)

Postby 2Nu » Thu May 05, 2005 11:36 pm

Since I mentioned elsewhere that I eff'd up a whole bunch of mp3 tags via 'Music Brainz'
Can anyone lend me some tech support on how to undo or modify mp3 tags that have since been run through this @#$%* tagging app?
I now have a whole bunch of mp3 files buried in these newly generated subfolders with many of them incorrectly renamed (ex: wrong remix 'name' or originally 'correct tag info' overwritten by Music Brainz)
I foolishly chose one of my biggest folders (700+ files) to try this out on.. BIG MISTAKE..DOH!!! [:(!][:(!][:(!]
I just want to add/modify info to the existing mp3 file ONLY, not create a whole slew of subfolders to wade through!! Please Help!!

You can modify tag info with Musicmatch. D/L their basic version, and turn off all the internet connectivity so it doesn't pester you to upgrade, then pull the directory into the player and modify away.

Also try iTunes ... it's free! I don't know if MusicMatch can do this, but iTunes is awesome for bulk tag modification ... it allows you to select multiple songs. You then right-click (for PC users) and select 'Get Info' and anything you enter into the ta

That I didn't know about the Itunes Undo system(or lack thereof).

Still, it's my favorite app to do tag editing on due to the bulk-edit feature.

My only beef with Itunes is no control of filename creation when ripping a CD to mp3. I prefer $ARTIST

Its sound like Music Brainz need to get some brains. I never like this program since test on bunch of 100 mps and this app got over 50% of id3 tags information all wrong.

I've been using MusicMatch to do this for several years. It's not perfect, but for the most part I find the Super Tagging feature works very well. Sometimes I have to help it by manually entering the artist, album and/or track title field (I use Amazon

Hey Thanx everyone,
I really should have tested it on a smaller group of files.
BTW: Does anyone know if you can or tried to revert those changed tags within the Music Brain(less) app?
Hellooo NATE: I'd like for you to weigh in on this one!
