Hub questions - external HDs

Some serious technical questions here for those who store their music on external hard drives. Any issues with dismounting or freeze-ups when you do so while on DC++ or DirectConnect? Might it be adviseable to download just to an internal volume then transfer later to your library so you don't have constant traffic going across your USB or FW port? Any opins for the gearheads?

Uh oh, seeing lots of discussions on external drive issues with the new Mac Tiger upgrade. Maybe I'll lay low for awhile before expanding on the 35gig that my internal is restricting me to. I had delusions of pouring everything I had into the new 160gig -

I have a dedicated 80 gig USB external HD by iConnect strictly for music storage. I download straight to my internal HD and then transfer over en masse when I'm ready to organize. Really, all I do is double click the file and let iTunes take over. I have

i download internally and then transfer over to a 300 gig external to run and fuel i-tunes. seems like a workable setup for me. 6 months, no problem. the only downside is that when i'm poking through itunes playing songs, sometimes it takes a second or

Thanks Wauk, Marv, Brit, Bud, everyone for the suggestions and help offers. It turned out to be both a bad drive plus an OS glitch masking that to boot (heh, just realized the geek pun). A new drive seems to be working without a hitch. Some more testing a

Should I worry about possible problems with external HDDs?

because EVERYTHING I share is on my shiny new 114G E drive.
I only share about 30 Gigs from my 100Gig colleciton.
