Thompson Twins If You Were Here extended version?

Postby Horrorgrrl » Fri Jun 24, 2005 8:47 am

Hi~

I've heard that there is an extended version of this Thompson Twins song - "If You Were Here". Is it true? Does anybody have it, and if so, would you care to share it, or trade? Rock!

There is a slightly longer version of "If You Were Here" on the <I>Ghostbusters[/i] soundtrack. It clocks in at 3:18 vs. the 2:56 on the <I>Quickstep and Sidekick[/i] album. I haven't heard this longer version so I don't know how different it is.

To the best of my knowledge no other "official" versions of the song exist. It was never released as a single or b-side.

Of course there may be some unauthorized DJ remix out there... [;)]

Heya Fritz~

It wasn't "If You Were Here" on the Ghostbusters soundtrack, it was "In The Name Of Love". Oh well, I guess an extended version of "If You Were Here" doesn't exist. I had read online at some 80's site awhile back that one did indeed exist. My quest continues...

Actually, I remember "If You Were Here" on the Sixteen Candles soundtrack.

I only have the 2:58 version. Sorry.[:(]

Oh damn, you're right. It is "In The Name Of Love" on the <I>Ghostbusters[/i] soundtrack. My bad. [:I]

Tiger_mn, yes, we all remember it from the <I>Sixteen Candles[/i] soundtrack, but it's the same version as the album.

I've scoured the TT discography, which includes all the foreign releases. I have found no other "official" versions. If there is an extended version out there, it's a DJ remix.

All I can say is that I don't believe there was a 12" extended version as I am a big fan of the Thompson Twins, I can tell you that I do own a 12" awesome REMIX of "Watching" on vinyl with a fabulous B-side track both of which were not released on the current re-release.

Thanks, Justin/DevoManiac101

Who knows what exists in the tape libraries, but I can tell you that the US offices of BMG don't have an extended version of "If You Were Here" in their libraries - and if it exists overseas it's more than likely been lost.

I have a link that says:

If You Were Here - Frozen In Time 12inch Mix.mp3

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GOY53PBJ

But "Frozen in Time" is Kamikaze, not If you were here.

Check it out and see what the file actually is...
