Wide Open Road: The Best of The Triffids

Wide Open Road: The Best of The Triffids

Postby roc51 » Fri Apr 16, 2010 10:38 am

It seems this new release has come in under the radar. Released on Domino Records in the UK and Liberation in Australia, this is the first career spanning compilation since the long out of print Australian Melodrama in 1994.

All tracks are digitally remastered and this release finalises the massive reissue campaign of the past few years to remaster & reissue their entire back catalogue.

Criminally overlooked during their career, much like country-mates The Go-Betweens & The Church, songwriter/singer David McComb was one of the greatest artists of his generation. Alongside The Church, Go-Betweens, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and Paul Kelly, the Triffids importance to the legacy and heritage of Australian independent music cannot be understated. Wide Open Road is considered one of the greatest songs in Australian music history.

Their contribution to the history and landscape of Australian music was recognised in 2008 when they were inducted into the Australian Music Hall of Fame in 2008.

This is available as a standard single disc and deluxe 10-CD package though I don't know what the deluxe edition contains (perhaps their entire back catalogue in the box?):
