Lost Souls on Book of Love reissue is longer!

Lost Souls on Book of Love reissue is longer!

OMG...I totally did not realize this until today. While we were all griping that the 12" version of "Lost Souls" was not included on the reissue of the band's debut album, the ALBUM version of the song actually runs 35 seconds longer on the reissue than the original pressing of the album from the 80s (from a running time of 4:50 to 5:25)!

I did not notice that. Where is the extra 35 seconds most noticeable, at the beginning, middlem, or end? We still would like to have Lost Souls (Spirited Mix) on cd though. [:)]

it's all added to the end--essentially, the original CD release has an 'early fade' of this version. The last 35 seconds are all percussive and synths, much like later parts of the "spirited mix". Both the 'album version' and the 'spirited mix' note specifically that they are mixed by Mark Kamins. I'm going to guess that he created the original 5:25 version that was just too long for a vinyl record's running time back in the day, so it was edited down--and then from that version, he extended it into the "spirited mix". Up until the 4:50 mark, the spirited mix IS the album version. However, the continuing 35 seconds of the 5:25 version are not the same as the 35 seconds that follow on the spirited mix. In fact, it is much more natural in flow...on the spirited mix, it sounds like a pretty harsh edit was made after the 4:50 mark to extend the song.

I agree, I still wish the spirited mix had been included on the reissue, but this unique longer version is a nice find on a CD reissue that I literally purchased ONLY for the We Three Kings bonus track.

That's very interesting--thanks for the tip, budaniel, I think this goes in the "buy" column now.

So I imagine that the pre-release rumor that the "Lost Souls" remix would be on the CD wasn't entirely wrong; someone just mistook "unedited album version" for "12 inch remix."
