Propaganda - Wishful Thinking 2nd June

Postby Parrothead » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:28 am

Had heard a couple of the mixes on Wishful Thinking, will be buying this release. Received my order of the 25th Anniversary edition of A Secret Wish, am enjoying that one. For me, I have always preferred the lp version of "Jewel", nice to finally have that one on CD. [:)]

Yeah, I prefer the original vinyl version of the album, as well.

Received the CD (Wishful Thinking) today. I've only had a chance to listen in the background, and the extra remixes don't sound like must-haves, but I'll have to listen to it again.

I'm disappointed at the packaging of this. I don't mind these vinyl-style jackets, despite them being a pain, but I just wish that they were consistent with it. Either have both the Propaganda reissues jacket-style, or have them both digipak.

Okay, some brief comments about the bonus tracks:

Strength to Dream Outtake - More or less the same, but with some different instruments, including jazz brushes.

P:Machinery The Beta Wraparound - For vinyl transfer, this sounds really good. I only know it is mastered from vinyl because it says so. This should be a template for anyone digitizing vinyl for CD release.

The Murder of Love Murderous Instrumental - Pretty much the same, without the voice, although there's the ocassional Art-of-Noise-style beat, where second and fourth beat is extra loud.

Dr Mabuse Outtake - The same as the original vinyl album version, except for the Bonus Bird Beats at the end.

Frozen Faces A Secret Sense of Rhythm - Repeated loops. A pointless piece of crap.

P-Machinery The Voiceless Beta Wraparound Edit - More filler.

I think the Dr. Mabuse outtake is not mainly the same as the album version. There are different drum patterns and the vocal is somewhat different in the mix. The dramatic ending part together with 'don't be a fool' is glued together in a nice way and goes on longer, just the same structure of the instrumental version.

The synth part in the instrumental ending, this time together with the birds, is about the same as on the 12 inch version. A very nice addition.
