Icehouse reissues

It's a shame about No Promises... that's one of my all-time favorite 12" mixes. Why on earth would they source that from vinyl when, as has already been noted, it's available on CD???

Got the 12" Mixes in. Annoyed that I couldn't get the frickin cd out of the box but after that, it was just amazing. The first track alone is worth the money, the US Club Mix of "Can't Help Myself". Just awesome! The rest of the cd1 as well as cd2 did not disappoint. Didn't even really mind the vinyl rip of "No Promises" cause it sounded pretty decently clean.

I'm loving 12 Inch Versions and Remixes Vol. 1 as well. The vinyl rip of No Promises sounds fine to me. How do you know it's a vinyl rip? If anything, the first track, Can't Help Myself (US Club Mix) sounds more like a vinyl rip. It's an awesome mix, though. The liner notes and booklet are good, too... certainly more information than the Icehouse reissues from a couple years ago.

<br>That White Heat 30 hits DVD with the promos was plain awful. Why did they compress the video picture? All the vids are distorted. Let alone the sound being compressed.

Since no one has mentioned it here, I'll dive in. The "White Heat" PAL DVD [whatever its visual shortcomings] has had its audio remixed for 5.1 surround sound. So if you want to hear Icehouse in 5.1, here's your one and only chance.

Listen to the entire compilation on headphones, and you'll be surprised by the number of vinyl transfers. The crackles and pops are much more evident on headphones. Nonetheless, the transfers are very well done, hence why it's difficult to tell on a sound system (not headphones). I was shocked by how many songs were vinyl transfers and even more surprised at how well they were cleaned up for CD.

Yes, since I wrote that comment I have listened to both sets numerous times on headphones, and you're right... there are a ton of vinyl rips. They do sound very good for vinyl, although I'm still confused as to why it was necessary in cases where the tracks have already been released on CD. Anyway, I won't complain too much. It's great to have so many of these vintage remixes available again.
