Lotus Eaters - No Sense of Sin...Finally!

Postby omar » Fri Jun 04, 2010 2:21 pm

Got mine today. The 12" version of It Hurts makes up for the loss of the original which was strangely left out. Other than that, this 2010 re-issue is almost as good as the Japanese cd from a few years ago.

This was the perfect opportunity to put everything on this album even if they made it a double and sadly i cannot ever see it being reissued again.

I recently picked this up fairly cheaply from Amazon. Not sure why I didn't back in 2010, maybe because of Cherry Red's reputation?
Anyway, I'm pleasantly surprised with how good it sounds. It has great dynamic range numbers as well.

I think the Japanese reissue from 2000 had the best sound.

I ended up getting the Cherry Red version as well and the sound is ok on it but what were they thinking omitting the album version of It Hurts :o Another thing this album has been reissued twice and there still has been no sign of The First Picture Of You (Extended Version) which i know has been on other compilations but even so they should have included You Don't Need Someone New (Charleston Mix) as well as the only place to find that on CD is on Hardest Hits Volume 4.

It Hurts is one of their best singles and I think they could've also included the ext. mix of You Don't Need Someone New. Maybe they should release a rarities collection that would capture all the unreleased stuff.

I have the Japanese CD and the worst sin was omitting two original album tracks. I'm all for adding bonus tracks to CD's but not at the expense of album tracks. Big mistake.

There was 3 album tracks missing on that Japanese CD and i remember reading once that they couldn't locate the original masters and that's why they were omitted.

I read something similar in that the master tapes had deteriorated and they had to bake them . Still it was good to get this released . I think they missed the opportunity to put some of the extra tracks on like first picture of you and I don't need someone new ( Charleston mix) however these have now surfaced on subsequent compilations since the Japanese version came out

Most of the mastering on the CR issue is the same mastering as the Japanese CD. That's because Sony have a tendency to transfer the masters only once, the first time they are used or licensed, and then use those same digital files for the next release that requires those songs. They only do new tape transfers for the songs that hadn't previously been mastered to digital. They have been doing this for about 15 years. It's been done with reissues by Altered Images, King, Thompson Twins, and this Lotus Eaters release, for example. The only way they do a brand new tape transfer is if it's requested, and subsequently paid for.

You're right Start Of The Search, Too Young and When You Look At Boys. I have WYLAB on the other Japanese CD "First Picture Of You"
