Maybe I've just been lucky or something, but the first CD-R's I made back in 1996 when I got my first CD burner (Phillips) still play perfectly today. Also I've never encountered any issues with mp3.
Speaking of mp3, I know there are audiophiles that know their music stuff big time, but I admit for myself and many of my friends, I can play an mp3 track and the original track from CD and cannot tell any difference in sound. I've tried this with friends and they tell me they cannot hear anything different in quality. Nor can I and I try hard, honestly. Maybe it is my system that limits the quality to begin with but I use Vienna Acoustic speakers and pretty high end components and cables, etc...for my ears anyway, an mp3 sounds excellent, of course as with even a CD, depending on the source material. Maybe it also depends on rates used (I used 320 only) and CD-R quality. I use Sony since for me they've just been easiest to find where I live.
