Howard Jones The Video Collection DVD

Postby elviscaprice » Fri Jun 07, 2013 3:53 pm

Just as much as I'm not much of a music only track collector as a video collector. But if the music tracks are well done and I'm into the artist, I'm in.

> obs, it may not be but then neither is yours.

What I'm talking about is optimal pricing, which all retail business try to determine for their products. You just don't know what I'm talking about, and unfortunately, since I'm not a business major, I can't explain it properly.

> Oh and you missed eighties point out.

Yeah, sorry, I "missed" it because he posted after I was last here, and I don't have a time machine. But his explanation makes sense. If Howard is limited by how many he can press, of course that would affect the pricing.

I ordered mine this morning and already received a shipping notice. No problem with the price because it's a lot better than paying 4x the amount in a year or two on eBay. Besides, at least it's going to Howard rather than some uncaring record label man.

I ordered mine last week and it arrived today...but I am out of town, so I will have to wait to watch it!

As for the price? Justified. As someone with industry experience, I can confirm that Howard is not gouging his fans with this release. Licensing videos for reissue is not cheap.

Agreed, regarding Howard Jones and Gary Numan (mentioned earlier). It's these damn entertainment companies. They own rights to everything under the sun with no intention of releasing most of it. It's sad that they basically see no value in what they own until someone else shows interest. I know making money is the point of owning the rights but some of this stuff does have a shelf life. Honestly, how much longer will HoJo, Numan and other "30th+ anniversary bands" be viable enterprises beyond download only content.

I wish more bands would do what Howard does with these reissues and video dvd collection. The cd's sound great and I love the presentation. The collection of videos is also very cool. Money well spent and yes it's a little on the expensive side but you get what you pay for.

I'm in agreement with Neil Kelly.

We rightly complain when music we love is handled with little care & attention (vinyl rips etc)

What Howard is doing is giving the fans QUALITY products.

You get what you pay for....

Agree...I'm going to buy this as well.

I firmly believe in supporting the artist direct. I saw Howard live for the first time when I was in Adelaide Australia for business last year (Human's Lib/Dream Into Action Tour) and let me tell you, he and his band were FANTASTIC.

I happily bought every one of the box set reissues and the live DVD after the show...Howard stuck around afterwards and SIGNED every box set and DVD (he was happy to see someone buy the lot) and was generous enough to take pictures with the fans.

This impressed me incredibly...as a fan, it makes me very happy to see an artist care about his fanbase like this, making the night that much more memorable.

If you ever get a chance to see him live, do so, you won't regret it.

Thanks Soundstory. And roc51 i agree with you totally. I saw him live first in a strange little club venue which i never got a ticket even for. I think it was Watford way and about 2001 but i don't know more than that. I caught the 20th Anniversary gig although at 3 hours long it had to start early and returning from Barcelona that day i missed almost half the show annoyingly! I saw the 25th anniversary and Human's Lib / Dream into action gig twice in London. He is amazing live and that's certainly due in part to Robbie Bronniman. I too bought all the box sets although they were a few quid too expensive i believe but done perfectly. I have all the live DVD's too he is amazing live. I have obviously purchased my tickets already for the 30th anniversary gig too

I've had the DVD now for a couple weeks. I'm slightly disappointed that there is no PCM sound, (224 kbps 2 channel). I prefer 2 channel output with a bass, 2.1. If your into surround sound 5.1 then your set with DTS 5.1.
Video quality is slightly above average.
