Shriekback - Jam Science / Live At Hatfield

Ok I got to listen to it -- a bit disappointed. Many of the songs you could hear vinyl pops and crackles-- especially the "Hand on My Heart" mixes and the Y record version bonus tracks. It also sounded a but muddy in some spots-- definitely more bassier in spots than the vinyl. I felt the quality diminished towards the end of each side as if it was recorded in one runthough per side and later segmented. This is a shame as 2 of my favorite songs "Midnight Maps" and "Hubris " were affected by that technique.
The booklet information is great although you are left feeling that they were most dissatisfied with the entire release and it was put together in a god-awful hurry. The Live CD is very cool - nice recording of many of Jam science songs with real drums.
It stills remains a favorite album of mine-- I will most definitely keep my vinyl copies though because it seems that is the only master around of these. Although it is a bit shoddy and sloppy I am sure they did the best they could with what they had and it may be the only way to hear an official Cd version of this as it appears the masters are lost.

Thanks for the updates. This may indeed be the best we get from Shriekback if the masters are indeed lost. I'd love to support the band, but this doesn't sound like much of an upgrade over the vinyl.

Sounds fine. But am I the only one who got packaging that exposed part of the CD? Never seen that before.

Thanks. I figured out that the CDs could be pushed in to avoid that dreaded exposure. Viva snap, crackle and pop!
