Interesting, considering that this version sounds identical to the original version (3:41) -- the drums intro version, that is. Then again, Madonna's "Borderline [7 Inch Remix]" and "Borderline [Extended Dance Mix]" were both mixed by Jellybean, and they were quite different (the 12" had a number of extra effects, including vocal echoes not heard on the 7"). In other words, the 7" was simply not just an edit of the 12". This could very well be the case with "Always Something There To Remind Me". So, I think that it's safe to say that it is the single version then. Thanks for the info!

I hadn't seen the video for some time, so thanks for pointing out that it contains the version I'm talking about. I appreciate all the info on where this version appears and I'll try and track one down.

Not to get ahead of myself or anything, but has there been any talk of Cherry Red also releasing "Fuel for the Fire" with bonus tracks?

Nope, no talk.

At http://nakedeyesmusic.com/
there is "Dr Pepper radio spot from 1983 discovered",
a short but interesting not elsewhere available tune.

This is on the US Amazon site also and just dropped about $5. Totally pumped to hear this! May be the highlight of 2012 reissues [for me].

[quote]Also, if anyone knows the official name of this version, please do tell. Is it the original version? Or, is it simply an alternate version released in certain territories?

I bought the S/T "Naked Eyes" LP when it first came out, and a buddy of mine bought the same LP a few months later (both bought in the U.S.). Or at least it looked the same on the outside. My copy had the drumless intro on ASTTRM (which I greatly prefer anyway) and also had the original mix of PP (the one with the alternate "cup of tea" lyrics and echo effect in the chorus). His copy had the drum intro on ASTTRM and had the newer (Americanized?) version of PP. I was lucky enough to stumble onto that Australian "One-Hit Wonders" CD that had the drumless intro and through all the greatest hits packages was able to burn myself a CD with all of the songs on both albums in their original formats. I hope with Burning Bridges I can finally have a proper copy of the original album I own (though with the tracks in a slightly different order, I guess).

Count me among those that would love a FFTF reissue. I'd hope that it would include Two Heads Together and any other previously unreleased track.

Interesting! So, it appears that maybe initial pressings of the album featured the drum-less intro of "Always Something There To Remind Me". Later pressings included the drum intro. Thanks for the info!

And don't forget the entirely different version of Promises Promises! On their first "best of" compilation, Pete mentioned that the lyrics were changed for American audiences but that doesn't explain why the music mix was changed as well (I assume this will be the version on the upcoming CD).

Indeed! It's too bad that we don't get all these mixes on this reissue (should be 2 discs), but that may just be due to available masters.

Figures. [:(!]

I'll still pick it up since it has tracks I don't have on cd, but it really does suck everything has to be squashed dynamically.

Got my copy today. Sounds great to me. I like the original version of THE TIME IS NOW, which I hadn't heard before.

Sure enough, the version of ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE TO REMIND ME is the one without the drums in the intro, making me suspect that this was always the original version of the track and the version that we got accustomed to on later releases was a U.S. remix.

I really hope Cherry Red gives the same treatment to FUEL FOR THE FIRE. Best reissue this year, in my opinion.

Thank you for the info! I just ordered my copy of "Burning Bridges". I'm under the impression, too, that the original version of "Always Something There To Remind Me" is the drum-less intro version. Note that some U.S. 7" pressings list the song as being mixed by Jellybean. Maybe that's the drum intro version?
