I thought it was me but yeah, the highs on this cd hurts my ears. I'm usually not that picky either. Too bad cause I love the all the tracks.

When I listened to it on my car stereo, I thought my ears were going to bleed. I had to boost the bass all the way up and lower the treble somewhat. At home, I have an old school setup wit an actual 2-channel receiver (with 4-speakers attached) and a separate graphic equalizer--which I've always tended to keep set with more emphasis on bass, so it sounds excellent on there. I wouldn't dare try to listen to it on any modern 'surround' system with preset equalizing (just not how stereo music was meant to be heard IMO).

Anyone else find this? Would suck if it's really true.[:(!][/quote]

I read on another forum, that "Brand New Lover" came from the master tape, and if anything, is at the correct speed. This was from the mouth of Tom or Ian. It does sound a bit slower, but not too much to be that noticeable. "Lover Come Back To Me" is fine...both versions.

OK, finally got my copy.

The sound is way too compressed - this is dance music; it should be popping out of my speakers. Instead, I hear beats, but no dynamics. I'm so happy that someone finally did a collection with all 7" mixes, and it is a nice, complete collection, but I hope that the reissues of the albums (should they happen) will sound better.

"Brand New Lover" - it really does sound slower to me. I have the single mix on one of those Rhino VH1 "Big '80s" CDs and I can tell the difference. But, I don't have access to my 45s right now, so I can't go back and listen to my original 7" to see which one is correct. The VH1 disc version seems to be the way I remember it, though.

"Something In My House" - is this really the 7" mix? Anyone? Again, I can't access my 45s right now, but I could have sworn the single mix eliminated the howl and the lightning sounds and went right into the drum beats. Anyone?

Now u got me wondering as well. I always thought that the 7" mix of Something In My House was actually an edit of the Mortevicar Mix. Maybe there were different US/UK mixes. Oh by the way, there's an extremely rare (x rated) mix as well which contains samples from The Exorcist: Check this out burningthegrounddjpault.wordpress.com.

To Omar - unfortunately Pete sold the rights to his music a while ago to cover the costs of the damage done with the surgery, so he is unlikely to see much (if anything) from this truly excellent compilation. I hope he pulls his finger out, and makes a new album sharpish!
