Fave Comp From Back In The Day?

Fave Comp From Back In The Day?

We all remember-at least some of us do-how exciting those new wave/punk rock compilation rekkids were away back when-How about we post some of oour favorite old compilations?

Here's mine-I.R.S. Greatest Hits Vol. 2 & 3. Personally I would give my eye teeth for the mail order only vol. 1 single disk-so if anyone reading this has it and would either like to sell or dub for a reasonable fee (I'm a poor ph.d. student, folks-I occasionally have to pay for rent and food) please get a hold of me-

I loved this comp then-Police,Fall,Damned, Buzzcocks, Fleshtones-and love it now-we were reunited two years ago at Amoeba Records in the Haight in San Francisco.

You might want to try this guy. He has it listed but I have no idea how old the webpage is:
http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/arrestedde ... ALPs2.html

or try here:
http://db5.gemm.com/ddc/search.pl?&a_refno=GML612915647

I can't vouch for either of them as I've never bought from them but maybe it's worth a try.

My favorite was "A Bunch of Stiffs" from Stiff Records. Luckily, a good portion from this compilation made it onto the Stiff Records box set on CD.

Some that come to mind were the A&M samplers "Propaganda" and "No Wave" with Joe Jackson, The Police, Squeeze and more and of course the Stiff comps especially the "The Last Stiff Compilation Album - Until The Next One" which I believe was the last one on vinyl.(?)

Finally found a copy of this on CD at eBay.

Frontline Assembly, Legendary Pink Dots, Controlled Bleeding, Data Bank A, & Psyche.[8D]

Though it's not a new wave comp-it helped launch a lot of '80s artists-I'm listening right now to the first Nuggets comp as re-released with the Nuggets box set on rhino-in a day when were awash with 60s garage comps-featuring bands from Wichita and Muscatine-it's easy to see that the first is the best-we had a beat up copy of the 1972 elektra release at the college radio station where I worked as a student dj in the 80s-that album helped launch my appreciation of 60s garage type-and its amazing to listen to this comp-not a clinker in the bunch-Lenny Kaye did a remarkable job putting this sucker together.

I have the IRS pt 1. I can burn you a cd of it if you want. I don't think I can part with the actual vinyl.

Throbbing Lobster Records comp. c.1985

I had a number of favorite compilations in the '80s, but one of the most influential for me, maybe my favorite, was a vinyl LP I lost long ago - it was a comp from a small New England label called Throbbing Lobster. Scruffy the Cat and Dumptruck were among the bands, but they weren't even my favorites on this: there were SO many good songs, and I can't remember them now! Does anyone know what the heck I'm talking about? Help, please!

Yeah, an old friend of mine from Boston had this lp. It was called Let's Breed if Iremember correctly. He had another one called Claws that I'm pretty sure also came out on Throbbing Lobster.
