The Waterboys, my favourite band eheheheh, will be releasing on Oct 26, The Platinum Collection. This album includes 39 tracks coming from the Fisherman's Blues album, (a good album although I like only the first 4 tracks),Room to Roam (their worst album!!!!!)and This Is The Sea, (their best album). The current price tag is $39.49 which is ridiculous since the original albums (not the remastered ones) Fisherman's Blues and This Is The Sea cost only $8 each? Anyway, they might be my favourite band but I will pass on that one.[:D]
Fot info the best CD's are 1.This Is The Sea, 2.Self-titled, 3. A Pagan Place, 4. Fisherman's Blues, 5. The Live Adventures of the Waterboys.

I finally recently got their self-titled. There are three forgotten WXB 102 tracks there.

They also have a great album called "The Live Adventures of the Waterboys".

There is also a 2-disc deluxe edition of Fisherman's Blues hanging around. Has anyone heard this? I have not and I'm not sure if it's worth the steep price tag.

Do U mean the remastered version or the 8 track "original" album?
That 8 track album is such an excellent one that I have a spare sealed copy, it includes the very cute song A Girl Called Johnny and the smashing hit I Will Not Follow . There are no filler, It Should Have Been You, December, Gala, Savage Earth Heart, The Girl in the Swing and Three Day Man are all outstanding. Now they added 7 tracks, actually 6 if we don't count December (Original 8-Track Mix). I discussed with die-hard fans and they were happy of the bonus tracks, well I'm not, they are so much below par that they dilute the beauty of the album rather than enhancing it. The only interest of the remastered album could be the unedited version of Gala but I haven't heard it.There is also a 5 track version of this album but I haven't seen it.

The Live Adventures is interesting coz it includes among other things , the extended version of The Pan Within, my favourite song of the band. It used to be the only official Live album of the band but recently they released Karma to Burn.
About the Fisherman's Blues album, fans were quite excited when they heard that the band had recorded quite a number of extra tracks during the session. Eventually Fishermans'Blues 2 and the Collectors Edition were released but the only thing fans got here is more folk and Irish tunes, personally I would not recommend those albums.

I got the one with the bonus tracks. No, they're not up the quality of the LP but it's nice to have them. What's really striking is how the Waterboys were somewhat reminiscent of Echo & the Bunnymen in the early days.

Franciz, thanks for the info on the upcoming release. I'll probably get it just becuase they are also one of my favorite bands. As a matter of fact, I more or less agree with your best Waterboys album list, with the exception that I might slip Fisherman's Blues into first place...which is why I snapped up the newly remastered collector's edition!

Oh, and I agree that live version of The Pan Within is incredible. I think The Live Adventures Of The Waterboys cd may be out of print, but it's worth searching out for any fan who doesn't have it!

Well U know the funny thing is that the Waterboys have fans with very different backgrounds. There are some who love "The Big Music", like me, others like folk,Irish or even acoustic music. Some years ago a poll was conducted on the official Waterboys web site among all the fans and TITS won by an incredible margin. Recently the album Fisherman's Blues was heavily promoted and this explains maybe your opinion. I'm nevertheless disappointed that the Platinum Collection is nothing but a 3 in One album with no songs from A Pagan Place and their self-titled album.

WOW THAT PLATINUM COLLECTION IS HEAVY ON THE BUDGET!!![:D] I'm satisfied with my "THIS IS THE SEA" VINYL RECORD, "THE BEST OF THE WATERBOYS 81-90" CD, and "FISHERMAN BLUES" cassette tape.[:D] HE HE HE![;)] If the price would go down in the future, then I will think about it![8D]

Actually Franciz, Fisherman's Blues is probably my fave becuase I saw them on that tour. That said, I do love This Is The Sea, and have to admit that the remastered versions could battle each other for first place in my collection!

I know, I know, it's difficult to make abstraction of the environment... A dude might say that a certain song is the best on earth simply because it was the one being played when his girlfriend said yes to him..[:D] Watching a band live has an impact on us and affects our objectivity... In my case, I don't have this problem since very few bands dared to come to the Philippines ahahahah
Anyway we can match the 5 best songs of Fisherman's Blues against 5 songs of TITS.
ex:
1. Fisherman's Blues - The Whole Of The Moon
2. We Will Not Be Lovers - The Pan Within
3. Strange Boat - Medicine Bow
4. World Party - Don't Bang The Drum
5. And A Bang On The Ear - This Is The Sea
And the result is:
1.The Whole of the Moon is a sure winner being the most popular song of the Waterboys. Score 0-1
2. The Pan Within is their most powerful song, it's a no contest. Score 0-2
3,4 Medicine Bow and Dont Bang The Drum are 2 Waterboys anthems, easy winners. Score 0-4
5. This Is The Sea is a wonderful ballad, it also wins easily.
Final score 5-0 in favor of TITS.[:D]

U should better get yourself a copy of A Pagan Place and Self-titled , the original album versions are now cheap, nevermind the remastered CD's. Unless U intend to live in complete darkness even without brownout![:D]

Well Franciz, song for song, you make a compelling argument. It may well come down to the fact that I really got into the Waterboys about the time of Fisherman's Blues, and associate it with a great time in my life. That said, "We Will Not Be Lovers" is an amazing song, and may pull off a tie with "The Pan Within" for my favorite Waterboys tune to play at full volume. Great band vibe on both tunes.

I am happy that the first four albums are all remastered though!

Actually, I really love We Will Not Be Lovers but it was facing a heavyweight, better luck next time eheheheh
It's a pity that a lot of dudes are not familiar with the Waterboys since they have quite a number of gems aside from The Whole Of The Moon....

PS. We Will Not Be Lovers.... Is it what your best friend told you when U offered to proceed to a nearby motel? Just kidding![:D]
