OMD "The Best Of" CD question

OMD "The Best Of" CD question

Postby unguarded moment » Wed Dec 27, 2006 3:49 am

Can anyone tell me if the import version of OMD's "The Best Of" (not "The OMD Singles")CD has remastered sound? I have the domestic version from 1990 but noticed that the import was issued in 2002, so I am thinking that it may have improved sound.

More than likely (and I'm not 100% sure of this) but the 2002 'reissue' could just be a price reduction situation...possibly going from a full to mid price reissue which is often the case in titles like this.

I think so, as the import has for sure a different track order, and maybe one or two different tunes.

Yes, I suppose you're right. Okay, domestic, in my case, is USA; import is otherwise. There-satisfied? [:)]

BTW, on the topic of this CD, why is Tesla Girls ahead of Locomotion and Talking Loud and Clear, when Tesla Girls was the third single from Junk Culture?

The order the songs appear on Junk Culture is "Tesla Girls", "Locomotion" and "Talking Loud and Clear", same as the Best of CD.

Hmm. My old Best ofcassette has "Talking Loud and Clear" as the last track on side 1. "Tesla Girls" opens side 2, followed by "Locomotion".

According to the "official" OMD site: www.omd.uk.com about the Best Of release:

The LP (Cat.#: OMD1) and MC (Cat.#: TCOMD1) had these notes listed:

"Electricity is a remixed version. The original plan was to overdub some new drumming according to Andy, 'But we found that the playing that we had recorded in 1979 was so bad that the more perfect we got the sounds, the more inept the playing seemed to become!' As a result, they just settled for remixing the track."

"Messages is actually the 10" single version."

For the CD (Cat.#: CD OMD1) MC (Cat.#: MD OMD1) and DCC (Cat.#: 458604) had these notes as well as those listed above:

"The CD/MD/DCC release features 4 extra tracks: Telegraph, Genetic Engineering, We Love You (12" Version) and La Femme Accident (12" Version)."

"The CD/MD/DCC also has a slightly different track order (Tesla Girls and Locomotion precede Talking Loud And Clear)."

"The version of Telegraph used here is a unique version which only features on the CD, MD and DCC releases."

NOTE: "The Australian version of the album (all media formats BTW!) actually featured 'We Love You' as the song was a big hit when it was originally released there."
