I went and saw Thomas Dolby in December and I met him and specifically asked him if EMI was going to remaster and re-release his catalog and he told me "next year."

So hopefully 2007 we will will see the the remastered Dolby catalogue.
He already remastered Prefab Sprout's Two Wheels Good for an upcoming Remastered Anniversary editon.

It's about bloody time. Golden Age of Wireless needs a proper runtime and track order. Hopefully they won't compress and maximize the discs to hell (Fat chance).

I love the first Dolby album to death.

I like Flat Earth.

I absolutely HATE Aliens Ate My Buick. I recently bought it again at one of the Tower stores during their liquidation and thought I'd give it a spin with an open mind. It is so god-awful that I felt cheated by spending the $4 on it that I did. And this is truly the fourth time I've tried to like it. There's nothing to like, really. He left the UK, moved to L.A. and lost all his talent.

If you missed his recent run of live performances you should check out the newly released dvd "The Sole Inhabitant: Live Concert". 6 songs of "Golden Age of Wireless" vintage, a couple or so from Flat Earth, and one or two from "Aliens" ("Airhead"). CD Baby (and others) has it. He puts on a great show, and knows what the audience wants to hear. Next up, he says he is working on new material.

Tell me about it! It's becoming increasingly difficult to me to accept new "remasters" when they've applied insane amounts of dynamic compression to make them as loud -- and ironically as lifeless -- as possible.

Even a band as superb as The Go-Betweens let it slide on their last, Oceans Apart -- the last two tracks are full of distortion. It was so bad that apparently the UK distribution label Lo-Max reissued the album with the levels corrected. Can't say the same for the US issue!

Let's hope Dolby's ears for production haven't been swayed by this ugly trend.

I am just glad that any remastering is being done.. those old cds are horridendous!!! The worst thing remastered i think has been the Adam Ant catalogue.. they must have drunk or stoned the whole time this was done.. bad, bad! Anyone else think so?

The songs from Aliens redone for his live show seem to have a more electronic new wave feel than what was produced on that record. I really liked how he changed some things on the tracks after Flat Earth live.

I don't want to stray too far off topic, but you are so right -- the Adam & The Ants remasters are barely listenable, with the exception of Dirk Wears White Sox, which I thought was quite good.
