As previously hinted at, the Dead or Alive reissue of their debut "Sophisticated Boom Boom" has been approved and work has begun on the remastering. The track listing is below. No release time frame has been set as of yet. I had hoped to include the song "Give it to me", which is on the B side of the "I'd do anything" 12" single, though the rights to that song are held by the BBC so it had to be omitted. I will be anxious to get the feeback on how difficult Pete is during attempts to involve him in the project:
Dead or Alive - Sophisticated Boom Boom
I'd Do Anything
That's The Way (I Like It)
Absolutely Nothing
What I Want
Far Too Hard
You Make Me Wanna
Sit On It
Wish You Were Here
Misty Circles
Do It
Bonus Tracks:
Selfish Side (B side of 'Misty Circles' 12")
The Stranger (B side of 'What I Want' 12")
Misty Circles (Dance Mix)
What I Want (Dance Mix)
I'd Do Anything (Megamix)
That's The Way (I Like It) (Extended Mix)

So is October 30th now the new release date for both Dead or Alive and King? I've seen this on a couple of sites now. Just wondering.

Honestly, I don't know what's going on with this new release date. I've not heard about any changes, and the stock is available. I read on the DOA board that some have received it because they ordered it from Cherry Red's website. That may be the best bet for anyone at this point. I will see if I can get some further info on the release date issues.

Dead or Alive finally says in stock at Amazon.UK so I guess the other sites are wrong. Thanks for the help, Scott.

Mine is on 'special order' and has been for 2 weeks... Cherry Red releases are always pathetically stocked for the first few weeks...

Well, that's a UK release date - American stores won't have it in stock on the day of release. Give them about a week or so, and they'll probably have it. I just saw the latest Paul Young reissue there this week that came out in the UK on the 6th.

i knew i should have gotten the facts before i got all indignant! ha!
well, that makes sense. i guess i was just so bummed because i've really been anticipating this since it was announced in june- it's an all-time favorite of mine. i can wait, i can wait.
and by no means was that a criticism of the project itself, i think it was more a knee-jerk "what has pete/sony/etc. done now?"- especially in light of the 12" singles collection that was dumped a few years ago. and what a set that would have been! i'm eternally grateful to everyone that made this "SBB" re-issue happen.

Once Cherry Red obtained the license, Sony are completely out of it. It's all up to Cherry Red and their distributors. And since you mentioned it, there is a possibility that Cherry Red MAY attempt to license the already prepared 12" collection, if SBB does well. Since the 12" collection was said to be completed, i.e. mastering and artwork, it may be a simple license away..., but don't quote me. I believe the next possible DOA project would be the early singles.

Early singles vs. 12" extended versions
That is a tough pick

the early singles are a bit too goth-lite for me, it's when they start with the disco beats and octave basslines that i get happy. so i'll take the 12" singles, although i have them all. digital would rock, especially for the "mad bad" album.

It's not in UK stores yet so USA stores will be a while yet! Online pre-order is still 'on special order'....

Mine was shipped this morning from Amazon.UK so it's definitely officially released and in stock.

I'm in a state of total euphoria!!! Scott, your remastering is "Ear-Gasmic!!!" It came this weekend, and so did I!!! I can't believe how pristine and perfect it sounds!!! God, what an album!!!! Some of the songs still sound so fresh!!! Those perclating bass-lines and vocoded vocals, and the roar of Pete!!! With the muscular backing vocals of the men, this music is a glandular rush of testosterone and adrenalin. And those female backing vocalists sound like they could have come out of Shriekback at times!!!! And, I can't forget the horns!!!!
This music is BIG, brash, sexy and SASSY!!!! Pete almost "sodomises" the listener with that powerful instrument of his!!!! This is sweaty, hot, leather sex music!!! Pumped Torsos and throbbing codpieces spring to mind when this album plays.
Again, Scott, thanks for a beautiful job in bringing this record up to stellar proportions!!! You cetainly provided the musical viagra to pump this baby up!!!! I'm in a total swoon!!!! And I loved the booklet and pictures. Pete and company should be very proud!!!!!
Most thankful,
Jeffrey
