A great look at an often-neglected chapter of underground club -- the excellent electronic work coming out of Italy in the early 80s! The Italian approach to the music was certainly influenced by the sounds of New York, German, and England at the time -- but it also had its own flavor -- a kind of unabashed love of the dancefloor, and a subtle hope that disco would someday come again! The grooves on the set are all spare and electronic, but also quite infectious -- with a really strong focus on the hook, and a stripped-down sound that somehow makes them even more compelling.

Selected by- GIANLUCA PANDULLO wants to be a precious retrospective on that musical period. The compiler is a deejay and record collector from those years. He deliberately chose the most rare and influential tracks rather than the most famous ones, already featured in other international compilations.

Minny Pops | Drastic Measures, Drastic Movement


This CD release marks the 25th anniversary(!) of the debut album by Minny Pops, the cult Dutch electro pioneers who released four albums and a string of singles on Factory and Plurex between 1979 and 1985. Drastic Measures, Drastic Movement first appeared on Dutch label Plurex in September 1979. An uncompromising genre classic, the album mixes hard-edged electronica with modernist noise, and shares much in common with contemporaries Cabaret Voltaire, The Normal, Suicide and early Human League. As well as an early version of the classic Factory label 7" Dolphin's Spurt, the album also includes the junk-food satire M.D. Mania and a cover of R.U. 21 by US punk band Novak. The bonus tracks include all three cuts from their debut ep Kojak. There further is 12 minutes of audio-visual bliss featuring five live tracks recorded at the Amsterdam Filmacademie in 1979, playable on your PC in QuickTime format. Drastic Measures, Drastic Movement has been carefully remastered for CD by the band from the original analogue mastertapes. The booklet includes a detailed history of the band and rare photographs.
