Divinyls 1983 vs. Divinyls 2008

Divinyls 1983 vs. Divinyls 2008

Postby Yachtingtype » Fri Feb 22, 2008 5:03 am

Never owning the original Chrysalis CD I decided to purchase it and compare it with the lousy 2008 reissue. As I stated in a previous post the new 2008 release is terrible! I just received the original 1983 pressing and I am so happy! It's a great price reduce since the reissue was just released a few weeks back. So, obviously the original is not in demand as it was a few years ago, being the reason I never owned a copy. I think I am going to do the same when 'The Anvil' bu Visage is released. Unless they are still asking the ridiculous $100+

I would do the same with "It's All In The Game" but I know Scott's work and love 'Bittersweet' by King, so I will not need to purchase the original pressing of 'It's All In The Game'

Speaking of Cherry Red, I recently purchased the Photos CD and I am in disgust with how bad the bonus tracks sound. I cannot even listen to 'Guitar Hero' because it sounds so muddy. Oh, and lets not forget the audio distortion in the beginning of 'I'm So Attractive' thats a nice touch...yeah (being sarcastic).

Anyway, the point of the this post is for anyone wondering whether they should purchase 'Desperate' and the only reason I would say yes is because when it goes OOP you can triple your money and resell it.

Thank you

So, how does the original Divinyls cd stack up soundwise against the new version?

Regarding The Photos CD, I know exactly what you are talking about. Of the bonus tracks, a couple are shoddy vinyl transfers, while a couple of others came from a supplied master tape. Unfortunately, the hack who does most of CR's masters, (and he surprisingly included his name in that particular CD), does not have master tape baking knowledge or facilities. So what he does is run the tape through the machine while it's still gummy and sticky. If you listen to those two additional tracks through headphones, you will hear the whole songs sound like a crumpled tape. Because of this neglegence, the master tape was most likely forever damaged during that transfer, as the contents of the tape stuck to the rollers and the guides of his reel-to-reel deck. What's really sad is the appropriate baking device would cost him only around $100, and the procedure to 'restore' the tape is very simple. I've not mentioned this previously, but a couple of the tracks on my Artery CD were originally provided to me with the damaged/crumpled tape sound. For those tracks I went back to vinyl. Cheap and fast, that's the goal!
