Wow, I must be out of the loop on Simple Minds news. Their Themes boxes are finally going to be available again (as a single box), in just a few weeks:

I am really excited about this one. I remember seeing these brand new, on the shelf at Tower Records in 1990, but never bought them, and ultimately missed out. Can't freaking wait.

Both Amazon and Amazon UK list it as an import. Either way, the price is brutal!

Yeah, that 'one-shot' price is pretty heavy, averaging out to $50 per box set. I do wish they were selling them separately, in the original quad-foldout packaging. It's 25 CDs, so we'll probably get a bunch of slimline cases, or a wallet-sleeve design. Should be interesting to see.
I looked on Dream Giver and the official website for official release info, but didn't see anything. I can't miss this collection the second time around. Checking account be damned!

I looked around as well for information on these being rereleased but found nothing at all. The prices they are asking for on Amazon are a total joke how they expect anybody to pay those prices is beyond me.I find it highly unlikely these will be released but if they are i wonder if they will rectify the mistake with someone somewhere in summertime which had the single version on it instead of the extended version. Anyway if you are hoping on these being released i'm still waiting on this
http://simpleminds.com/discography/?id=210 which i would have much prefered.

I'd rather it was a proper box set of singles rather than a reissue of the Themes box, there are still plenty of early Simple Minds b-sides and 12" mixes not available on CD.

Such as???? I'm asking about early Simple Minds here, as you stated.
Glad I bought the first 4 Themes when they came out. And 2 of the cd singles with the correct versions of the songs listed.

For an average of $50 a box, you can probably find the originals on EBay for less. I could have lived without Themes 4, but it's nicer to have a complete set [:)].
When you think about it, it's really shitty of EMI to package all five in one. If I wanted Themes 5, and already have 1-4, I have to pay $250? Thanks, but I'll look for it on torrent. All I would want on 5 would probably only be "See the Lights".
edit// Oops, I spoke too soon. Amazon UK has Vol 5 listed separately, but at ... 42 POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK YOU!!!!

Funny, Amazon DE lists them as US imports. What, it's an import everywhere so that they can try to justify charging such a high price?

Maybe Amazon found a stash of them hidden away in their stock room and had a bright idea to sell them at an extortionate price. I remember when the last Depeche Mode boxsets were released mute decided to rerelease the older ones without remastering them the same will probably happen in this situation as well.

Even the Themes sets from the early, listenable, years have very little that is not otherwise available. And I've never understood why people go gaga over extended versions. Most of the SM extended versions just repeat riffs--why not just play the song twice if you like it so much. I picked up the first 2 volumes awhile ago and certainly didn't pay $50.

Does anyone remember the dreaded "cd rot" scare in the early days of cds? I can honestly say that I never experienced it with the exception of three of my original Themes box sets, and one import Duran Duran cd (the bonus cd on the wedding album). The playing surface turned patchy and cloudy on about 70% of the Themes cds. It drove me nuts so I eventually sold them for cheap and got replacement sets.
Did anyone else have this issue with their Themes box sets? I don't think it actually affected the playability, but who knows over time.

I ripped mine (securely) about a year ago, and it was fine. One disc did require re-reads, though, but it only added a few minutes to the process. None of the discs looked cloudy.

totally overpriced + for people like myself who have some of the volumes (either 2 or 3) it is a major rip-off, if they'd at least release the volumes seperately again I'd consider buying the ones that I still miss, but definetely not at this price...

The later volumes can easily be found for well under $50.
