Sony UK is re-issuing a bunch of albums in the form of "Original Album Classics", which are five disc/album boxsets. I think the albums come in individual cardboard slipcases, but I'm not sure. Price is pretty good, at about 14UK Pounds per set at Amazon.co.uk.

The main gripe is that these don't come with the extra tracks that are on the remastered editions (if the albums were ever remastered). For example, Cyndi Lauper She's so Unusual only has the original vinyl tracklisting, whereas the remastered CD comes with three extra tracks. Sony being the pricks that they are ...

Just visit http://www.amazon.co.uk and do a search for "Original Album Classics". There's three pages of them, but lots of old stuff, like Elvis, but there's other stuff that you may be into ...

Interesting that it uses the North American cover of Forever Now.

I wonder if these have been remastered. Anyone know?

Probably not. See above post regarding extra tracks and regarding Sony.

This is nonsense. I bought the first 3 Psychedelic Furs albums remastered and have been waiting for the othes to follow and now comes this. Will we ever see Mirror Moves and Midnight to Midnight given the proper treatment?

A friend of mine who used to work for Sony was one of the people behind the reissues of the 1st 3 Furs reissues. When I asked him when the rest of the catalog would be remastered & reissued he told me it would probably never happen because the 1st 3 sold so poorly. I never said it to him but I wondered to myself why they didn't all of the mixes & b-sides on those three. of course i wondered the same about the specials reissues, the the reissues... labels are so weird, aren't they? they did the 1st, 2nd & 4th love and rockets reissues perfect but ignore extra material for earth sun moon. why? rhino gets the echo & the bunnymen catalog pretty much right (but why not include the 12" mix of "lips like sugar" on either the crystal days box or the 1987 eponymous album reissue? stuff like that drives me nuts! since i'm whining, here's my wish list of cd singles box sets that'll probably never happen:
simple minds (not the themes collections - overpriced rip-off, not remastered and incomplete)
xtc
killing joke (the first one was 4 years ago! more please!)
new order
omd
cure
siouxsie
smiths

sorry for the rant!

cheers,

matt

That's interesting about the Psych Firs reissues Matt. I wonder how many did sell, vs. how many they were expecting to sell? I totally agree that Mirror Moves and Midnight To Midnight would be great to have remastered also.

And yeah, it is weird that the Lips Like Sugar 12" hasn't been on the official Bunnymen reissues. I finally tracked it down on one of the "Just Say..." compilations from '89 or so.

Which was the most popular album? I would be inclined to think Mirror Moves, followed by Midnight to Midnight. (and I mean popular, not what hardcore fans think is the best/coolest)

Yup, I would agree. By the way, I finally bought "Book Of Days" this year. It had a couple of surprisingly good tunes, but I certainly wouldn't put it up against the first five albums.

Okay, so if those two were the most popular, then I don't know why Sony is 'complaining' if the less popular ones sold poorly.

I didn't buy the first three albums remastered, but if Mirror Moves came out with remixes added, I surely would, and probably Midnight to Midnight, as well.

Another way to look at it ...
I could have lived without the first two Japan (David Sylvian) CDs, but since I wanted the other remastered albums, I ended up buying the first two to complete the set. If BMG only reissued the first two, I wouldn't have bought them at all, even though I picked up the three Virgin reissues/remasters.

nothing to do with Sony @ all but my 2 cents worth.
yes i feel the same way about ''why no Mirror Moves'' re-issue ?
but.........................
look at the INXS re-issues, why oh why is there no Shabooh Shabah (spelling ?), the Swing or Listen Like Thieves re-issues but all the crappy ones get the treatment (1st and 2cd didn't get it either) instead ?

i totally agree! i'd love to see a deluxe edition of the swing - my favorite inxs all album!

I couldn't agree more on the INXS reissue treatment - or lack thereof. That was really bizarre...they skipped over many of the fans favorite three albums and remastered the latter ones that probably didn't even need it.

I think it is very stupid to believe that if the first 3 Psych Furs cds sold poorly the box containing the 5 albums will sell better (or do they expect us to go and by the first 3 albums again to have the other two?).

Maybe the remastering was so bad that people would want the un-remastered version :).

Actually, it there weren't a slew of these sets, I would almost think that Sony is re-issuing these at a low price to trick you into buying it before they announce remasters (of the albums that haven't already been remastered).
