The Cut Up! A History Of The Scratch .

The Cut Up! A History Of The Scratch .

This is a personal recommendation for anyone who enjoyed 80's Hip Hop, Electro, Freestyle, House, Dance, Soul-r&b,
and Break Dancing.

This cd has some classic megamixes from back in the day, Some of these were played by Deadly Headly on CFNY and on 88.1 CKLN.
A few (New Wave artists) are sampled and mixed in.

Various / Scratch Ticket - The Cut Up! A History Of The Scratch
Scratch Ticket

This is another old school cut up'/re-edit artefact that I never thought we'd see. Around the same time that Double Dee & Steinski, Death Comet Crew and even Danny Krevit were cutting up and re-editing tape loop and pause button edit style there was a thriving underground of kid's making there own mixes of the undergrounds hottest rap/soul/disco and more importantly as this collection showcases the early electro based dancefloor tracks. As the booklet scan's show each of these mixes once appeared on wax not you'll know any of them unless you are knowledgeable about this scene after you did your homework when Grand Slam and Wax Poetics did in depth articles on this scene. The artists responsible include Mix-Trix, Dynamite Mixers, Glen Adams & DJ Freeze, New York Scratch Masters, Scratchmatic, Z-Rock, Trans-Lux. A quick random sample of some of the tracks featured in the mixes include (if I can recall) Kraftwerk 'Tour De France' and 'Numbers' are heavily featured across the sixteen mixes featured, various Profile 12"s from Run D-M-C through Pumpkin and Fresh 3 MC's, Rockmaster Scott's 'Roof Is On Fire', Serious Intentions' eighties classic 'You Don't Know', Art Of Noise, Colonel Abrams, Paul Hardcastle (when he was dope), Aleem with the awesome 'Release Yourself' in a hectic re-edit fashion and even the 'White Horse' makes a appearance. This is the music that was flooding into my head when I was aged 14, no wonder I'm freaking out so much while I'm typing in this review. Only one word of warning though - you'll need to take a break after every mix because if you listen to all 2 1/2 hours on offer in one go your head might explode. A seriously hardcore collection of cut up madness. Unmissable....
