Huey Lewis and the News

Recording again January 2010!

Superstar, R&B aficionado, and all-around nice guy Huey Lewis came to Ardent this month to start work on a new record. And yes – he brought the News. Together they were working on a Stax tribute record – yet to be titled – and felt that Memphis and Ardent were the way to go for just such a project.

p.s. this post was intended to say 'If you don't like the artist mentioned in the subject line, don't click on it and make some ridiculous comment about how they are not new wave (or NU Wave)'

All in agreement, thank you.
All opposed, why are you reading about Huey Lewis and the News?
And why would you even think about commenting?
To each his own, piss off.

All the best,
eighties

I can't speak for everyone, but I opened the thread hoping to read that they'd died in a helicopter crash. Then I realized how wrong that was. Because only musicians with talent seem to die in helicopter crashes.

Huey Lewis and the News is really crossing the line. One of the worst "mainstream garbage" bands of the 80's. Posting anything about them on this board is just ridiculous. Kill this thread now!

I was standing on the corner of 47th and 7th in the City one day and Huey was standing next to me. That is all.

[:p] Be nice! I saw them years ago here...believe it or not, they were pretty good. You're right though...not new wave. However, pretty cool to learn they're still making music.

I saw Huey Lewis and the News open up for Roxy Music on their Avalon tour... I'm not a fan, have never bought any of their music, no mp3s in my collection, but it was a decent live performance.

Roxy Music was great.

Well, they're not new wave (except for the mediocre first album). But they still kick major ass. I hereby sentence everybody in this thread who dissed them to get Rick Roll'd.

I thought early on they showed some promise as mainstream rockers in the same vein as John Cougar or The Boss. By the time they soiled the charts and our memories with crap like "Back in Time", "Stuck with You" and "Doing It All for My Baby" the dream was over.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

Huey Lewis & the News actually backed Elvis Costello & several other "Stiff Artists" in England back in the mid / late 1970's,when Huey Lewis & The News were known as,"Clover" & were in England @ that time recording their debut album "Clover"....

I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
