As mentioned in the "reissue daydreams" thread, Wounded Bird is releasing this CD on May 4th.

wahoo!!! it's about time!!! I just hope Wounded Bird does a good job--occasionally, their sound quality is awful.

Wow...this is fantastic news...finally...I never understood why it was never issued on CD upon original release.

I was working at Record World at the time, and it almost immediately became a cut-out after it was released. Very weird...and probably the reason a CD wasn't made.

Interesting point on the CD release...I had the cassette and I remember Ink and Paper being a big college radio hit on KROQ. In recent years I gave up on ever seeing this on CD, so I bought the vinyl and had it transfered to CD and then into the iPod.

Wounded Bird is a good label but I have no idea on their strategy of picking reissues...it all seems quite random. And they don't ship internationally.

A lot of what they put out is decided upon by customer suggestions to their email address. They also have people at the labels they work with (Sony, Rhino) who give them suggestions and information on releases that have never been on CD or are out of print. I used to work somewhat closely with the Rhino person who dealt with Wounded Bird, and the Modern English was on my list of suggestions a few years back. The Rhino person wasn't sure if they owned the rights to that album anymore, and I figured it was a lost cause. But, I guess they figured it out!

The transition to cd was kind of slow for some record labels; I would've thought that by 1986 all new releases would get a parallel cd release. Cactus World News' "Urban Beaches" had a similar story...no US cd release even though it came out in 1986 (there was a UK cd version however).

You're correct; it's surprising how many albums did not come out on CD at that time. Back then, the CDs still came out at least 2 weeks after the album and cassette (if at all).

Same year the Chameleons put out Strange Times
for Geffen. No cd. Burgess talked about this in
his book, but it was all Geffen/financial related.
