Bad mastering - Make you comments heard

After hearing of the bad quality on the new DURAN remasters, hacked up again by the SPANDAU mastering jerk, Andy Walter, we have got to do something about this. I request that anyone willing to write even the most basic poor review on Amazon to please do so. Focus on the poor aspects of the projects because saying any form of "it's good enough" is not going to work towards making these companies understand that we're tired of this nonsense.

When I first started posting messages here about the lack of quality on reissues, I was attacked for being ungrateful for the product. But over the years, many of you have now seemed to understand what my concerns were all about, and I think that's great. But now we have to find a way to minimize or stop it because it's clearly getting much worse!

Regardless of how many awards he's won, someone must have recently stuck him in the ear with an ice pick. I'm not buying the "remasters" now. If someone wants to send me a copy of the Planet Earth demo, then I'll be all set.

The bonus tracks do sound better if that's any consolation. I haven't watched the DVD yet so i can't comment on that though i can't imagine they will have fucked that up as well.

Don't the bands themselves have any say in this ? I'm sure they get to listen to the promos before they go out? Surely they can see if the sound quality is fucked ? I'm amazed. A major label like EMI is trying to compete with Cherry Red !

You stick it to the man, big guy!

I just hope you don't any get any death threats like a certain buddy of mine did. (Or at least, if you do, that they send them to the right person.) Lots of shitty labels with shit mastering out there run by complete head cases. And their cunt wives.

Too right

All the labels are probably run by fat old cunts and their skinny sypilictic wives..........don't give them anymore fucking money.

Don't Duran or Spandau hear this second rate shit before it goes out...So expect the rest of the SB and DD backcat to recieve the wonderful midas touch of Walter......Arsehole[8D]

Well, Al Jourgensen's empire is crumbling - and his
wife gets called Yoko alot, too. Record label, message
board, the whole works it seems (even if he has gone (sort of)
back to his synth roots). Shit, sorry - didn't mean to
turn this into a Ministry post!

I guess we are somewhat to blame to re-purchase what we already have on CD. And I am happy with the quality of the older CDs. I just don't fall for any so-called remasters. I just go out and buy stuff that were not previously released on CD. (White Door, The Mood, Mobiles, Expressions, One to One, Random Hold, H2O etc). Now when these are released since their quality is good compared to my crappy vinyl, then I forgive the little quality issues. Moral of the story? trust the older CDs you have and don't waste your money on those shitty remasters wise guy. [:D]

the problem with the older CD's are they are pressed from vinyl masters, so these are pretty damn shit. With the new remasters, these are done for the digital age......but it doesn't excuse some tone def twat who strips bass, drums and the life out of stuff. I was looking forward to a decent remastered copy and instead will have to pump for lo-fi crappy 90's straight from vinyl crap instead. That's real 21st Century quality.

Andy Walters has wrote a glowing review under the alias of C. Rigby http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003 ... d_i=468294

Anybody got a contact e-mail for Nigel Reeve at EMI? He was the coordinator for the release (well, the head honcho for EMI catalogue anyway) and he'd be the best person out of the bunch of fuckclumps to contact.

Strangely "Ask Katy" at the Duran website has become unavailable for the time being so no direct complaints can be made there.

If the artists would get more involved, and were educated on the problems plaguing recent remasters, all of this could have been avoided. Thomas Dolby posted comments during the remastering of his first two albums, stating he was going to oversee it all to ensure that no compression was going to occur. The results? Stunning remasters of both "The Golden Age Of Wireless" and "The Flat Earth". Both CD's are low in volume, retaining ALL original dynamics.

Similarly, Alan Wilder was involved in the Depeche Mode remasters, and NONE of them were compressed at all.

Other times, like in the case of the Siouxsie and the Banshees remasters, artist involvement means nothing because the musician has no real understanding of the pitfalls to avoid. Aside from two of the early Banshees remasters, all of the others suffered from various problems, and the last 4 were the worst. The remastering hack for those was Gary Moore, a sound engineer who admits to have been diagnosed with Tinitus. Really? Then put those tape reels down or give them to someone else without a diagnosed ear condition. Geez...
