Differences in the Girls on Film night versions?

Differences in the Girls on Film night versions?

Postby budaniel » Tue Apr 27, 2010 11:33 pm

So, for anyone who bought the Duran Duran reissue, regardless of the mastering quality, what exactly is the difference in the two night versions, one of which was supposedly previously unreleased? I mentioned in an older thread that I already have two different night versions on various compilations that are nearly identical in length, but one of them has the camera click sounds on the opening and the other doesn't. Is that the case with these two versions on the reissue? Thanks in advance.

The only difference I hear are the camera clicking sounds at the beginning (which misses the first two clicks).

Girls on Film Night Mix sounds like the Night Version, but played in a cave. Actually, there's subtle differences, but it more or less sounds like the Night Version. It's a disappointment. I was expecting it to be more like an extended version of the album version.

Thanks obs. so both versions on the remaster have the camera click sound, but they just sound like the tracks overall are mixed differently (one sounding more 'hollow'?).

Night Mix doesn't start with the camera. What I meant was that it sounds like the non-extended Night Version.

It's more than just the hollow sound. The vocals start a bit later than the regular Night Version, and there's some New Orderish "handclap" percussions in there.

okay. thanks. I'll have to listen to my two versions and look for those nuances to see if it's the version that's on the reissue.

The original Night Version has no camera noises, and has the earliest fade of the 3 versions .

The Alternate Night Version was originally released in Australia and later Europe (on Carnival), it has the camera noises at the beginning and towards the end more guitar runs from Andy as well as more vocals from Simon ("shooting star" etc). It's this version (slightly extended) on the X-rated video.

The Night Mix is similar to the Alternate Night Version but is mixed differently, most noticeably for the drums, and there are a few different sounds here and there.

This is a great reference for Duran Duran song versions:

So karnsculpture, would you say that if you already have the alternate night version, if I already have the alternate night version, would you say that's the definitive 12" mix--or do you like the 'night mix' better? If the Night Mix doesn't have the camera clicks, then it's already lost appeal to me.

There was only one mix from that CD5 that I liked, and it was the one that sounded similar to the original. The rest I didn't care for.

Salt Tank are great, but I can't think of any of their remixes that I really like.
