Does anyone remember Tracie ? She was sort of the female singer with the Style Council before Dee C.Lee. Her debut solo release from 1984 is being issued by Cherry Red on cd first time ever July 19th.

Of course! Tracie "The House That Jack Built" Young? She was a bit of a one hit wonder but.. Far From The Hurting Kind was reissued on CD in Japan with 7 bonus tracks in 1996. I used to have the CD until I sold it.. Let's hope Cherry Red does a good job with this one.

Here's the tracklist and notes for it, if anyone is interested. I had this promo when i worked in record store back in the day. A few years ago i wanted to hear again and found the mp3 version. It was fun hearing it again, not sure if i would buy it again though.

Released on 28/06/10. We're very proud to announce the very sought after and long overdue first reissue of Tracie's debut album Far From The Hurting Kind. The album was originally released in 1984 on Paul Weller's label, Respond Records and this is the first time the album has been available on CD in the UK.

This 20 track CD features the 10 tracks of the original album plus 10 essential bonus tracks from Tracie's catalogue.

The bonus tracks include Tracie's hit singles; The House That Jack Built #9, Give It Some Emotion #24 (7", Extended Remix and a version from a 2009 live radio session) Soul's On Fire (12" version), b/sides The Boy Hairdresser and Same Feelings (Without The Emotion). Plus Mama Never Told Me taken from the Respond Records compilation Love The Reason, a demo version of Invitation, and Nothing Happens Here But You (live 2008 radio session).

A comprehensive CD booklet features a Q&A between Tracie and respected Paul Weller biographer, John Reed. Also included is a full UK discography and the booklet features many promotional items from the time of its original release that have been amassed with the help of Tracie's fans appeal.

The House That Jack Built / (I Love You) When You Sleep / Souls On Fire (Long Version From 12" Single) / Nothing Happens Here But You / I Can't Hold On 'Till Summer / Dr. Love / Give It Some Emotion / Thank You / Moving Together / Spring, Summer, Autumn / What Did I Hear You Say / Far From The Hurting Kind / Mama Never Told Me / Find It In Your Nature / The Boy Hairdresser / Same Feelings (Without The Emotion) / Give It Some Emotion (Live Radio Session 2009) / Nothing Happens Here But You (Live Radio Session 2008) / Invitation (Demo) / Give It Some Emotion (Extended)

I have to say, I don't remember anything by Tracie, but I checked out some of these songs on youtube, and this is that pseudo-soul/jazzy brit pop stuff that grew like a plague after the demise of new romantic stuff and somehow weaseled its way into the 'new wave' label (probably just because it came from England), and i really couldn't take it in large doses. Gary Numan...A Flock of Seagulls--Tracie. yeah. The segue just never worked for me.

I loved The Style Council and because Tracie was involved with them I sort of ended up liking her. However I'll now wait and see what kinds reviews her album gets.

That's true but her only hit was synth-pop - which was a plague at the time too [8D]

what would you consider to be her one hit? Because the tracks I listened to on youtube, all of which were singles, are not what i really consider synthpop. The kind of synthpop I like I never considered a plague--I considered it new wave...

So i youtubed her and found this is the sessions for the new tracks on the Cherry Red reissue.

Hmm..

No she was never really synthpop, though Paul Weller flirted with synths here and there she was more like polished 80's pop.

Her only UK Top 20 hit was "The House That Jack Built". "Plague" was just a way to describe the way it spread wasn't it [:D]

btw let's not debate the definition of "synthpop" please [:P]
