Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have announced the details of their Darkness On The Edge of Town box set, which will be released on November 16.

Numerous songs on the 3 CD/3 DVD package don't appear to have been heard anywhere, even on bootleg, including "Someday (We'll Be Together)," "The Brokenhearted," "Save My Love," "Ain't Good Enough For You," "It's A Shame," and "The Little Things (My Baby Does)." The set includes a remastered version of the album, two discs of rare and unreleased songs, a DVD of a 1978 Houston concert and another DVD of live cuts from 1976 through 1978 and a complete filmed performance of the album last year in Asbury Park.

DJCraig,

As possibly the only other Springsteen fan on this site, allow me to give you some friendly advice: in addition to the Boss' music having no connection to this site, most of the people on this site loathe him. Fair enough, to each their own. Anyway, by posting this you're just putting bullets in their chamber, as it were, and trust me when I say there are some serious marksmen on nwo. As for me, thanks for the update because I've been waiting the 'Darkness' reissue to finally materialize and that description sounds fantastic to me. Brace yourself for some serious blowback from everyone but me on nwo.

Duck & cover,

Clarence

I love Springsteen, especially from that time period, can't wait to hear some new music that's 32 years old.

I'll take this period of Bruce over Toyah any day.

All i wanted reissued by Bruce at this point is Born in the USA with all the 12" mixes--particularly the amazing club mix of Dancing in the Dark. But that will most likely never happen...

You also left out what is cool about this remaster is Bruce's unreleased studio versions of "Fire" and "Because the Night."

Watch a documentary excerpt here:http://www.brucespringsteen.net/news/index.html

Bud, never say never.. those 12" mixes were important at the time, maybe not to the fans, but when you making a box set deluxe thing like this and spread out 20 songs onto 2 discs.. there is no reason why it can't happen.

Despite current classifications of Bruce, older books on new wave suggest that he was often considered part of the new wave of rockers coming out in the mid to late seventies, along with the likes of Graham Parker, Elvis Costello, etc. He was certainly different from the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton and the other popular acts of that time. Happy to hear of the reissue.

I shall wait for the 40th anniversary edition, which will contain 12 CDs (plus LP equivalents), 5 BLURAYS and a NEVER BEFORE SEEN PHOTOGRAPH!!!!!!11

Anyhoo, glad to see BS is still putting out product for his "working class" audience.

I know he got early play on WLIR in NY, but I think this is where some of the different classifications get crossed and conflict begins. There's a thorough list online of LIR's playlist for over 20 years, including a week by week list of their 'screamer (later called shriek)' of the week--a favorite song voted by listeners. in the early 80s, their set list was more 'new rock' than new wave, meaning, it was lots of artists that didn't quite sound like 1970s 'classic rock' bands. So they were like 'modern rock' of the time, but that doesn't mean they were playing synthesizers and using drum machines or coloring their hair in rainbows and spiking it up with gel. Gradually, LIR segued into an all 'new wave' format (I think by like 82) and early 80s rock by names such as Bruce Springsteen, Steve Winwood, Suzi Quatro, Phil Collins, The Who, The Kinks, Stevie Nicks, The Stones, Hall & Oates, AC/DC, Asia, Huey Lewis, and Van Halen was never played again on the station.

Too funny! Maybe it will feature a classic Springsteen concert reconfigured in 3D with Smell-O-Vision.

In case you missed it, here is the genius "Born To Run" number that Fallon opened the Emmy's with last Sunday:
