Red Box new album "Plenty" due out Oct. 11

As a preemptive strike, let me say that yes I'm aware that Red Box were far from being "new wave" but I didn't really know where else to post this, so ...

It's been 20 years since the last one, but the third album from Red Box is coming out on October 11th. Here's a link to their site where you can hear the lead single "Hurricane", which just keeps getting better every time I hear it:

http://www.redboxmusic.net/htm/home.htm

I've been privileged to hear the album in its entirety, and it is FANTASTIC. It's quite diverse - it's got driving pop/rock tunes ("Hurricane", "The Sign"), lush ballads ("Stay", "Green"), longing love songs (I get chills from the outro of "Without"), a bit of melancholia ("Sacred Wall", quite possibly the best song they've ever done), and it even closes with a bit of avant garde / borderline psychedlia ("Never Let It Be Said").

Amazon currently has it up for pre-order, as does iTunes ... personally I'd recommend the Limited Edition 2-CD set as it has six extra songs that are as good as anything on the album proper ("Once I Dreamed" is worth the price of admission alone).

I've gotten to know the main Red Box evil genius (Simon Toulson-Clarke) and some of his bandmates, and I can safely say they're some of the greatest folks you’ll ever meet (they tolerate Jay the Obnoxious American so I give them props for that alone). So if you like what you hear, tell your friends (and if they don't like it, get new friends!!).

About time ! Circle And The Square was on the best albums of the 80s. I also loved Motive and now will definitely buy the new one. Thanks for the info.

It fills me with dread knowing this is going to be released on Cherry Red. Anyway i had a look about and the release date has changed to the 18th October. I went to that site and it says listen to hurricane but there is nothing there to listen to[?]

Really Moni? It's working for me. In the box that says "New Red Box Album ..." there's a part that says "Listen to Hurricane:", then you just press play. I wonder if it's a browser issue? I've tried it on both Firefox and IE, both seem to work. Safari too (just checked). And the site shows the whole wave file which doesn't seem to be brickwalled :)

There are a couple conflicting release dates but I have it on good authority that it's coming out on the 11th. But it's possible it's coming out in the UK on the 11th but the U.S. on the 18th (why the one week delay, I don't know).

It's coming out in the states on the 19th October according to Amazon US.There is no difference as it's being released in the US as an import.

To add a little more mystery, amazon.co.uk has one release date of Oct. 11th and one of Oct. 12th, depending on which version you're looking at. The RB website says Oct. 11, I'd go with that (amazon isn't always accurate). Let's just say "October" and leave it at that [:D] Besides, we RB fans have been waiting 20 years for a new album, what's another week? [8D]

as for the discrepency between 11 & 12 oct that should be due to the fact that uk releases come out on mondays and us on tuesdays...

Good point Clarence - iTunes U.S. is still showing 10/11 as the release date but that will probably change to the 12th or 19th.

There's no difference between the U.S. and UK versions. The only difference is between the standard album and the deluxe version, which includes six extra tracks (it's not shown on iTunes right now but I understand it eventually will be). I'll give further updates as I get them ...

You can purchase it on iTunes now. Wasn't at all impressed with the songs. The flavour that was clearly present on the first two albums is lost.

Listen to the snippets first on itunes. To me this album doesn't sound like Red Box at all but some downtempo country crap. There's no Lean On Me or Chenko like stuff at all. I'm for sure not going near this one.

Well sure if you're looking for "The Circle & The Square II" then this album's not for you. But then Motive wasn't TC&TS either. This album's certainly got its share of more mellow songs (definitely no "country" songs, though, I'm not sure where that came from). I love it but sure, it's not for everyone. Then again there will be people who like this album that didn't like TC&TS. To each their own ...
